General Statement Of Job DutiesGoTriangle, the regional public transit agency serving Wake, Durham, and Orange counties, is currently seeking a Finance Intern. This part-time opportunity involves performing a variety of foundational accounting duties within the Finance Department. The position averages 18-24 hours per week. Duration of the internship may be extended depending on departmental requirements and funding availability.Essential Duties And ResponsibilitiesAccessing the general ledger via proprietary financial softwareCreating and inputting journal vouchersMonthly reconciliation of general ledger accountsParticipating in monthly close meetingsReconciling bank statementsAssisting in the monthly updates of fixed assetsAnalyzing general ledger accounts for incorrect postings; making necessary correctionsIdentifying variances monthly in the general ledger and be able to explain as neededGain a basic understanding of an Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR) layout and be able to perform various edits and reviews regarding reconciliation of financial statementsUtilizing knowledge of MS Word and Excel in the execution and completion of assignmentsAssisting finance staff in other duties as neededOther duties as assigned.Minimum Qualifications And RequirementsEducation and Experience:Qualified candidates will be pursuing or have recently completed a degree in finance or accounting from an accredited university. Additional course work beyond basic accounting is preferred.   Experience with business intelligence tools such as PowerBI is a plus.A comparable blend of relevant education and experience may be accepted in place of the stated minimum qualifications, with the exception of a High School Diploma or GED, which must be met as specified.Working ConditionsWorks in an environment where there is minimum exposure to dust, noise, or temperature. Work is normally performed in a typical interior office work environment. Other working conditions may require; precise hand/eye coordination, basic keyboarding and other repetitive motions, operation of vehicles, lifting/pushing objects weighing up to or over 10 pounds. None of very limited physical effort required and none or very limited exposure to physical risk.Physical RequirementsSedentary Work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body.
