Job Description

Black Sash seeks to appoint a national Finance Manager, based in Claremont, Cape Town with a hybrid remote working option.Black Sash’s mission is working towards the realisation of socio-economic rights, as outlined in the SA Constitution 1996, with an emphasis on social security and social protection for the most vulnerable, particularly women and children. We will, in the course of our work, explore options to significantly help to reduce poverty and inequality.The core responsibilities of the Finance Manager are to ensure the careful, ethical and strategic management of the finances and operations of the Black Sash in line with organisational policies and values, and professional best practice, to ensure the sustainable and effective delivery of our programmes in line with our vision of making human rights real. Build a culture where all employees are proud to belong and dedicate their skills, knowledge and experience towards Making Human Rights Real.Minimum RequirementsFinancial Management: Manage financial information for managers and trustees, including income/expenditure statements and donor reports. Oversee cash flow, prepare projections, and manage financial processes like investment, budgeting, audits, and statutory returns. Support fundraising and donor compliance with financial reports and budgets. Implement effective accounting systems and develop and manage policies and procedures in line with professional best practice.Administration: Ensure efficient administrative support to all national and regional staff. Oversee procurement, maintenance, asset management, resource, and material management. Implement quality and cost control measures for logistics and ensure optimal office management.Information Technology Management: Oversee suppliers, technical consultants, and service providers. Manage data and reporting systems. Provide sufficient resources to staff by implementing effective procurement policies and budgets.Staff Management: Oversee Finance and Administration staff, including supervision, regular reviews, and development plans.Governance: Work with the Executive Director and Board of Trustees to ensure statutory compliance and good governance.ExperienceBachelor of Commerce or an equivalent financial qualification is a requirement10 years financial and operations management experienceA track record in a NPO environment is essential, particularly an understanding of fund accounting and donor reporting.Experience in reporting to donors such as the European Union, USAID an advantageExcellent financial management skills, strong planning, organisational, strategic and analytical skillsGood working knowledge of Pastel, MS Word, Email, Internet and d-base packagesPlanning and organisational skills – prioritise work and manage time effectivelyKnowledge of legislation pertaining to employment conditions and industrial relationsManagement and supervisory skills (including coaching and training skills)Good communication, interpersonal, listening and conflict resolution skillsDriver’s license is essentialLanguages: Excellent command of spoken and written English is required, and at least one other South African languageWe are looking for a candidate who is committed to human rights, who can think proactively, and creatively and is prepared to work hard, under pressure and to the deadline, often beyond normal office hours, and to travel occasionally.Preference will be given to women in line with our Black Sash Policy.How to apply?A letter of motivation, andCurriculum vitae (max: 5 pages), withThe names of three contactable referencesSubmit your application to jobs@blacksash.org.za or direct your enquiries to Mr J Marques (021) 686 6952Closing Date: 31 October 2025Start date: ImmediatelyEmployment Type: PermanentCost to Company: R 871 271,90 per annum (includes: Medical Allowance, 13th Cheque and Pension)Please note: Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted.
