The ideal candidate brings both the technical rigour of public-practice accounting and the agility to thrive in a fast-moving, entrepreneurial company.The RoleReporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer and working closely with the Operations, HR, and Executive Leadership Teams, the Controller is responsible for leading the financial management, accounting operations, and reporting processes of Haztech’s multi-corporate structure (Canada & U.S.).This is a full-time, remote role, with flexibility for periodic in-person collaboration at our Canadian Headquarters in Regina, SK or at one of our regional offices.What You’ll DoFinancial Leadership & ReportingOversee all day-to-day accounting functions, including general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, payroll, and intercompany transactions.Prepare and present accurate, timely monthly and quarterly financial statements (multi-entity, consolidated, and divisional).Develop, implement, and maintain accounting policies and internal controls that align with ASPE and U.S. GAAP where applicable.Lead preparation of year-end working papers and coordinate with external auditors and tax advisors.Support financial planning and forecasting, providing insight into performance trends and key variances.Budgeting, Analysis & Strategic FinancePartner with management to develop annual budgets, forecasts, and financial models for each business unit.Provide analytical support for strategic initiatives, acquisitions, and new business ventures.Deliver actionable insights through KPIs, margin analysis, and cost-tracking dashboards.Monitor working capital and cash flow to ensure efficient capital deployment.Systems, Compliance & OptimizationOversee accounting systems (currently Sage + project-based integrations) and recommend automation and workflow enhancements.Ensure compliance with all federal, provincial/state, and cross-border tax, payroll, and reporting requirements.Maintain and continuously improve internal controls, approval processes, and documentation standards.Liaise with external accountants, bankers, and insurance partners as needed.Leadership & Team DevelopmentProvide mentorship and oversight to the accounting and finance support staff.Build a high-performing finance function that scales with Haztech’s growth.Foster a collaborative, accountable, and continuous-improvement culture aligned with Haztech’s values.What You BringRequiredCPA designation (CA, CMA, CGA, or CPA equivalent).Minimum 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 3+ years in a Controller or Senior Accounting role.Deep understanding of multi-entity, multi-jurisdiction financial structures.Strong technical skills in ASPE (and U.S. GAAP familiarity an asset).Experience with Sage, QuickBooks Online, or similar ERP systems.Advanced Excel and financial modeling capabilities.Exceptional attention to detail, accuracy, and organizational discipline.Strong communication skills — able to distill financial information for non-financial audiences.Bonus PointsExperience in industrial, construction, oil & gas, mining, or healthcare sectors.Background in cross-border (Canada/U.S.) reporting or transfer-pricing environments.Experience leading or implementing financial system upgrades or integrations.Proven success supporting a rapidly scaling, entrepreneurial organization.Why HaztechMake an Impact — Join a company that protects and cares for people every day across North America.Be Part of Growth — Haztech is expanding its footprint, services, and technology — your expertise will help shape the future.Flexible & Remote — Work from anywhere in Canada, with optional travel for leadership or team meetings.Professional Culture — Collaborate with a high-performance team that values integrity, precision, and innovation.Competitive Compensation — Comprehensive salary, benefits, and bonus opportunities aligned with experience and performance.ApplySubmit your resume and cover letter to hr@haztech.com outlining your experience and why you’re the right fit for Haztech.
