This position will be located at Blacktown Mount Druitt HospitalBlacktown Mount Druitt Hospital is a leading tertiary care hospital, renowned internationally for its excellence in patient care, in its training of health care professionals and its research and innovation, committed to providing the highest quality health care to the people in the community with compassion and respect. The hospital is situated on the land of its original inhabitants and traditional custodians, the Dharug Aboriginal people, which is currently home to the largest urban Aboriginal population in NSW. Split over two campuses at Blacktown and Mount Druitt, the hospital provides 24-hour emergency service, intensive and high dependency care, specialist adult acute medical and surgical services, obstetrics and newborn care and mental health services.The position is a 12 months fixed-term appointment for the 2026 Clinical Year commencing 2nd February 2026Successful applicants will have completed advanced training by the commencement of the 2026 clinical year. Whilst full-time applicants are preferred for the available positions, job share, and substantive fractional part-time applicants may be considered.Applicants expecting to be awarded Fellowship within 6 months are eligible to apply.The Clinical Superintendent in Medicine is primarily responsible for organizing and coordinating medical registrars to provide effective, safe, and efficient clinical services. A contribution to clinical services is integral to the role accounting for up to 40% of the appointed time with the expectation that this will comprise a contribution to both General Medicine as well as an appropriately credentialled subspecialty.Successful applicants will have a demonstrated history of provision of high-quality clinical care as well as a detailed understanding of the local context for the provision of medical care and delivery of post graduate medical education. High level organizational, teaching and interpersonal communication are expectations of this role.Successful applicants may be offered a conjoint university appointment within the Faculty of Medicine at the relevant University attached to each facility. The level of academic appointment will be commensurate with the qualifications, experience and scholarship and will be held only during the tenure of the Western Sydney Local Health District appointment. No remuneration is attached to the University appointment. The appointee will be responsible to the University for academic matters and to the District for clinical mattersConditions of appointment are in accordance with the Staff Specialists (State) AwardEssential Requirements Possess or be eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia and Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians or equivalent as provided for in the Staff Specialists (State) Award. Must have Australian Citizenship or Permanent Australian Residency. Must hold a current NSW Environment Protection Authority license (if applicable) Sound clinical knowledge in Internal Medicine and relevant subspecialty demonstrated through successful clinical practice in an environment appropriate to the requirements of the position.Selection Criteria Qualifications and credentials required for core scope of practice in the specialty. Sound clinical knowledge in Acute General Medicine as demonstrated through successful clinical practice in an environment appropriate to the requirements of the position Demonstrated skills and attitudes appropriate for practice as a Senior Medical /Dental Practitioner including: Proven ability to work effectively and harmoniously with medical and other health services colleagues as part of a multi-disciplinary health care team. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with patients and colleagues. Excellent organisational, supervision and collaboration skills with demonstrated ability to build respectful relationships. Maintaining and developing knowledge, skills and professional performance to the level required for contemporary practice. Experience and involvement in quality assurance activities and translation of research into practice to improve patient safety and quality. Demonstrated ability to manage time and resources efficiently and contributing to the effectiveness and efficiency of the health care system. Demonstrated aptitude for clinical leadership which is evidenced by: Systems thinking and risk-taking aptitude. commitment to self -care and personal development. Capacity to maintain personal integrity, tolerate stress and demonstrate resilience. Commitment to building relationships, leading, and developing others. Results and outcome focused Commitment to good governance, achieving results and managing risks and Demonstrated commitment to Education, Training and Research, as applicable to the position Experience and interest in the supervision, training and professional development of basic physician trainees, general SRMOs and other junior medical staff as set by the Royal Australasian College of Physicians and Health Education Training Institute.
