We also have a full spectrum of ICT staff who design, develop and maintain high-level applications to improve and sustain Defence capability.Position DetailsAustralian Army is investing in data as a capability. You’ll start on a greenfield strategic decision‑support application to learn required Defence workflows, infrastructure and security, then progress to varied projects with deeper integration across platforms. A senior technical lead provides ongoing architecture guidance and mentorship. Key dutiesBuild and maintain full‑stack web apps for data visualisation and decision supportImplement visualisations and integrate with existing services/data sourcesSupport external teams with integration guidance, process alignment and pragmatic delivery optionsAssist testing and coordination (including in‑office participation)Contribute to transition from legacy infrastructure; perform technical analysis of legacy systems and recommend cloud migration pathsCollaborate with senior developers and stakeholders to deliver maintainable, secure, reproducible solutionsStakeholder engagementWork with BAs, product owners and military stakeholders to refine functional/non‑functional requirementsLiaise between functional and technical teams; guide architectural decisions and best practicesCollaborate with other platform teams on re‑architecture, migration and new product developmentEssential criteria5+ years web app development with front‑end legacy Angular and strong preference for Vue, Svelte, or React5+ years with JavaScript/TypeScript, C# (.NET), Node.js3+ years with SQL Server (preferred), Oracle or PostgreSQL; strong SQL (SPs/advanced queries)Strong communication; able to take direction and work independently to outcomesDesirableDefence/Commonwealth ICT experience; translating military/government needs into secure, compliant solutionsExposure to: Python; Kubernetes/Docker; Cloudera analytics; OLAP/Decision SupportExperience guiding external consultancies on technical direction, assurance and governanceSecurityAustralian citizenship required; Baseline/NV1 clearance (or ability to obtain)Why BrownstoneMission impact in Defence, with clear pathways from discovery to deliverySenior mentorship, robust engineering standards and Defence‑grade security practicesEthical collaboration and a culture focused on outcomes, maintainability and reproducibility
