In July 2024, GMIN acquired the Oko West project. The Oko West Project is a new gold discovery in northwest Guyana. It is located south of the historical “Oko” gold district, some 95 km west of Georgetown. Logistics SupervisorThe Logistics Supervisor will oversee and coordinate logistical activities at the Oko Gold Wharf Landing on the Cuyuni River.
This role involves supervising the receipt and transfer of goods via barge, managing transportation from the wharf to the mine site, and ensuring smooth movement of personnel and equipment. The successful candidate will ensure safety, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness in all logistical operations supporting our mining activities. Key ResponsibilitiesSupervise daily operations at the wharf landing, including unloading barges, cargo transfer, and ensuring safety protocols are followed. Oversee transportation activities from the wharf to the Oko site, ensuring timely and efficient deliveries. Manage and coordinate the movement of personnel, contractors, and equipment through the wharf facility.
Lead and mentor logistics teams, contractors, and junior staff, fostering a culture of safety and operational excellence. Collaborate with procurement, storage, and site teams to monitor inventory and coordinate logistics activities. Ensure compliance with safety policies, environmental regulations, and industry standards during port, cargo, and personnel movements. Assist in managing budgets for logistics operations and negotiating contracts/services to maximize value. Maintain accurate records of cargo, personnel, and transit activities; prepare reports to identify areas for improvementQualifications/Skills And ExperienceCertificate in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or related field preferred; relevant experience may substitute.
3-5 years of logistics or supply chain experience, preferably within mining or heavy industry environments. Additional Competencies RequirementsExperience supervising port operations, cargo handling, and transportation activities. Knowledge of logistics software, ERP systems, and Microsoft Office Suite. Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills. Familiarity with safety standards, environmental compliance, and operational best practices in logistics. Valid driver’s license and ability to work in remote, challenging environments. Working ConditionsPosition based at the OKO Project site. Work Schedule – 14 days on/7 days OffTransport, accommodations, and meals provided on site.
