We are currently seeking a dedicated and technically-minded Game Designer to own the implementation of our critical path content. This is a US-only remote role reporting to the Studio Director. We operate as a focused, lean team on a revenue share basis, meaning every team member is directly invested in the financial success of the final product.What You'll Be DoingThis role is centered on bridging design and technology, demanding heavy implementation work directly within the engine.Implementation Ownership—Be the primary designer responsible for implementing all critical story moments, main quest logic, cinematic triggers, and essential player interactions within Unity.Dialogue System—Implement complex conversational logic using Dialogue System for Unity by Pixel Crushers, ensuring all branching paths, conditional reactions, and character voices are accurate and bug-free.Lua Scripting—Write, test, and maintain clean, efficient Lua code to drive gameplay sequences, manage state, and connect different game systems.Audio Integration—Coordinate with Lead Audio Designer to manage audio events (VO, music cues, SFX) that accompany dialogue and scripted sequences, ensuring timing and emotional impact.Interdepartmental Bridge—Facilitate interdepartmental workflows and communication, collaborating closely with the Studio Director, Programmers, Audio Designer, and Artists.Technical Collaboration—Leverage your familiarity with C# concepts to troubleshoot integration issues, understand API structure, and clearly communicate feature requests to the engineering team.Required Skills & ExperienceExpertise with Unity as a development environment.Proficiency in Lua code; you must be able to script complex systems and sequences from scratch.Strong collaboration and communication skills for navigating interdepartmental workflows.Familiarity with C# for reading code and contributing to design specifications.Familiarity implementing and managing content within Dialogue System for Unity by Pixel Crushers.Familiarity with the Unity Fmod plug-in workflow.Experience designing games on a team.Deep knowledge and appreciation of narrative games and content.CompensationAs a member of the Fourth Act team, your compensation is tied to the game's success through our tiered revenue share model, organized here by ascending percentage:• Limited Contributor—For those with limited time commitment or not working directly in Unity. 3% • Active Contributor—Fully engaged for the duration of production, working in Unity. This role falls under this tier. 5%• Creative Leads—For departmental and studio leads. 8%Our Hiring StepsInitial Interview—With the Studio Director, focusing on high-level fit, design philosophy, and collaboration style.Second Interview—With the Lead Programmer, focusing on technical communication and workflow compatibility.Technical Skills Assessment—A practical, take-home test focused on Lua/Unity/Dialogue implementation, limited to 2 hours.Final Interview—With the team, assessing cultural fit and long-term commitment.OfferTo ApplyReady to join the team?
