Location: Remote (Worldwide – Native English speakers only)Contract Type: Freelance, one-off project (with potential for future work)Start Date: As soon as possible following interviews and approvalsAbout UsLA BRANDS LTD is the creative studio behind the bestselling Cryptic Killers Case File Games — immersive, story-driven murder mystery games enjoyed by players across the world (check them out on amazon).Since 2018, we’ve built a reputation for creating visually distinctive, realistic, and narratively rich investigations that combine physical and digital evidence into a gripping detective experience.Our games are sold online and in retail stores globally, and we’re now seeking more talented writers to craft the next wave of Cryptic Killers mysteries.The RoleWe’re looking for imaginative, detail-oriented freelance writers with a passion for both storytelling and gameplay to create original Cryptic Killers Case Files — standalone murder mystery games packed with character, intrigue, and clever connections.Each project involves creating a full case file containing approximately 15,000–20,000 words of in-world content (letters, reports, messages, articles, etc.), along with digital evidence that is essential to solving the mystery.You’ll be assigned a game title, provided with a detailed SOP (Standard Operating Procedure), and work closely with our editorial team through several development stages to ensure the final game meets our creative and quality standards.What You’ll Be DoingDeveloping a complete murder mystery story with layered suspects, motives, alibis, and a consistent timelineWriting all game materials in authentic, varied voicesCreating digital content (e.g. password-protected files, hints, emails) that forms part of the investigationDelivering a strong story arc, vivid characters, a twist, and a powerful “A-ha!” reveal momentRevising your work based on team feedback through structured editorial roundsProviding documentation for hints, whodunit reveal, and the evidence checklistThe Writing ProcessSubmit Proposal: Outline your concept for internal approvalTeam Review: Receive feedback and creative guidanceWrite Draft 1: Typically delivered within six weeksRevision Rounds: Collaborate with the editorial team until the case meets all creative and quality benchmarks in the SOP(The number of revision rounds varies per project.)What We’re Looking ForNative English speaker (required)Demonstrable passion for playing and creating gamesStrong creative writing skills — especially in mystery, crime, or interactive storytellingExcellent logical reasoning and attention to continuity — no plot holes and every clue must make senseAbility to write in distinct, believable character voicesSelf-motivated, organised, and comfortable working to deadlinesEnthusiasm for immersive storytelling and detective fictionBonus PointsExperience writing for games, escape rooms, or interactive fictionBackground in scriptwriting, editing, or narrative designFamiliarity with modern investigative or true-crime themesWhy You’ll Love Working With UsIf published, your name will appear on the game packaging, sold online and in retail stores worldwideCreative freedom within an established, proven game frameworkSupportive editorial collaboration throughout the processThe chance to see your story enjoyed by players around the globePotential to be commissioned for further games if the project goes wellOwnership & RightsAll work will be created with full copyright and ownership retained by LA BRANDS LTD.How to ApplyApply directly via LinkedIn only – email applications will not be accepted - please do not contact any of our team unless they have messaged you first.
