General Manager (Botswana Operations)

We are hiring a hands-on Country General Manager based in Gaborone to own operations, technical delivery and commercial growth across Botswana.Role Summary Country General Manager - Botswana (role summary)We are seeking a technically strong, commercially minded Country General Manager to lead all operations and technical delivery in Botswana. This role combines senior technical oversight (PV system design, installation quality and O&M), contractor management, commercial delivery and financial performance. The GM will build and lead the in-country team, ensure portfolio performance, and scale rollout targets in line with the regional growth plan.Reporting: reports to the Group CEO and Group CFO; will work closely with central finance and sales functions. (Note: country finance function will report into the GM for day-to-day operations.)Key responsibilitiesOperate as country head: full accountability for operational performance, safety, quality, commercial delivery and local team leadership.Technical leadership: own technical standards, system designs review, commissioning sign-offs, technical troubleshooting and O&M protocols across the Botswana portfolio.Project delivery: manage and accelerate pipeline execution — ensure installation targets (example target: roll 6 MW within the first 6 months) and successful handovers.Contractor & supply-chain management: select, manage and monitor EPC contractors and subcontractors; implement performance SLAs and quality assurance processes.Portfolio performance & reporting: maintain performance dashboards (energy yield, availability, faults, revenue), lead monthly portfolio performance reviews and report financials to group finance.Commercial & client interface: act as the country’s technical/operational contact for key commercial customers (depots, shopping centres, manufacturing, commercial estates), manage client escalations and ensure contract KPIs are met.People & capability building: recruit and upskill local technical crews, implement training plans and maintain H&S and compliance across sites.Market development: support sales and business development efforts with technical proposals, feasibility / site assessments and local stakeholder engagement.Required experience & qualificationsEngineering degree (BEng) or BTech in Electrical / Electronic / Renewable Energy; strong PV/solar technical background.Minimum 6–10 years’ experience in C&I solar, EPC or solar O&M roles (regional experience in Southern Africa preferred).Proven project delivery experience (managing multiple sites, third-party contractors and commissioning).Strong commercial acumen - P&L/accountability experience and familiarity with financial reporting.Experience with CRM/client escalation, and with implementing O&M processes and asset performance monitoring.Leadership experience: building and managing small in-country operations and technical teams.Botswana national preferred; South African citizens with right to work in Botswana will be considered.Excellent communicator in English; local language ability is an advantage.Remuneration & benefitsCompetitive market-related base salary Performance-linked incentives Opportunity to build a country operation and influence regional rollout
