General Manager - GippslandLa Trobe valley locationLarge established forest plantation managementSuit experienced forestry leader or GM from adjacent industriesExcellent executive leadership roleHVP Plantations is a successful privately-owned softwood timber plantation operator that manages extensive plantations across Victoria. Many of these plantations are located in Gippsland. This role manages a total of 127,000 hectares of land under management and harvests circa 1.2 million tonnes of plantation timber annually.This challenging role reporting to the COO is based in the HVP Offices in Churchill. Which is approximately 20 minutes from the regional city of Traralgon. It has a geographically diverse area and manages a strong capable team of 6 staff.This is a significant leadership role and manages 33 permanent staff and has significant autonomy to act and deliver the targeted outcomes in accordance with the agreed strategy and objectives.For example, in regards toProactively leading the Region, to enhance its resilience, flexibility, team ethos, and accountability whilst ensuring delivery ofPlanned field operations safely and environmentally compliant mannerAnnual customer plansThe regional budgetPositive relationships with the community and key stakeholder/interest groups relationsProtection and enhancement of plantation assetsThis is a senior commercial and strategic forestry leadership role to be successful you will need to demonstrate• Strong, proven and contemporary leadership skills.• Extensive Plantation management experience.• Commitment and a high level of awareness to environmental, safety and social performance of HVP operations.• Knowledge and experience in forestry export and markets.• Self-directed and achievement orientated within a commercial environment.• Proven ability in delegating work to staff, managing work quality outcomes and developing people.• Skill in establishing and maintaining good commercial, community, local council and political relationships.• Ability to communicate clearly and confidently.• Demonstrated skills or experience in contract management and negotiation.• Ability to construct and manage complex budgets.• Ability to build, maintain and develop successful teams• Ability to lead change and challenge to drive performance• Skills and experience to take a leadership role in fire prevention and suppression roles.• A relevant tertiary qualification is mandatory for this positionAs the ideal candidate, you will have extensive experience in successfully leading large complex plantations across harvesting, silviculture, planning, customer and haulage. You possess excellent communication, staff management and team skills. Skills in designing, negotiating and managing contracts are required. High-level computer skills are also required together with a tertiary qualification in forestry or related discipline is necessary.This is a rare role to join this leading forestry company, managing a large region.
