GIS Systems Tester / QA Specialist

Location: Toronto, ON (Onsite)SummaryThe Senior GIS Systems Tester / QA Specialist is responsible for leading testing activities across multiple Geospatial Ontario (GEO) projects, including GIS infrastructure upgrades, platform modernization, and GIS data-maintenance solutions. The role requires deep experience in testing Esri-based GIS applications, evaluating system integrations, validating data workflows, and ensuring that GIS infrastructure upgrades meet enterprise, technical, and compliance standards. The tester collaborates closely with project leads, developers, geospatial specialists, and business stakeholders to deliver high-quality, rigorously tested GIS systems.Key ResponsibilitiesDevelop and advise on testing strategies, test plans, testing tools, and resource requirements for complex GIS systems.Plan and execute testing for both GUI and non-GUI environments, covering system integration, functional, non-functional, regression, performance, and user acceptance testing.Design, develop, and execute test plans, test scripts, test cases, and test data for GIS infrastructure and data-editing solutions.Work with testing leads, IT leads, GIS architects, and project teams on analysis, system design, implementation, and support activities.Conduct detailed testing for GIS components including FME workflows, ArcGIS Server, File Geodatabases, Oracle upgrades, and GIS delivery platform maintenance.Evaluate and validate upgrades to GIS infrastructure, middleware, editing tools, and the GEO data-maintenance modernization solution.Ensure compliance with enterprise standards, quality assurance methodologies, accessibility requirements (AODA), and SDLC processes.Support UAT activities, defect resolution, and testing documentation across multiple Geospatial Ontario projects.Provide test execution reports, issue logs, troubleshooting support, and recommendations for system improvements.Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams across IT, GIS, business users, and OPS governance groups.Mandatory SkillsStrong experience with GIS (Esri) applications, including ArcMap, ArcGIS Pro / ArcPro SDK, File Geodatabases, ArcObjects, ArcGIS Portal, ArcGIS OnlineExperience in IT infrastructure modernization and maintenance projects.Hands-on experience with VBA, .NET, C++, C#, SDKs.Proven experience planning and implementing testing for large-scale systems.Expertise with structured testing methodologies, quality assurance principles, and SDLC phases.Experience with test design using CASE tools, automated testing tools, and version control systems.Ability to execute functional, non-functional, integration, performance, and regression testing.Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and decision-making skills.Experience supporting User Acceptance Testing (UAT) and preparing UAT documentation and scenarios.Ability to produce complete testing documentation including test strategies, plans, cases, and technical validation materials.Nice-to-Have SkillsKnowledge of at least one programming language (beyond required skills).Experience with information retrieval packages.Understanding of GIS infrastructure testing in object-oriented environments.Familiarity with Information Management policies, principles, and governance practices.Knowledge of AODA compliance and accessibility standards.Experience in testing Commercial Off-the-Shelf (COTS) applications.Experience coding automated test scripts for complex GIS workflows.Prior experience in the Ontario Public Service (OPS) or public-sector multi-disciplinary teams, including GO-ITS standards and gating processes.Experience collaborating with business analysts, technical leads, and project management on quality assurance initiatives.
