Graduate Research Assistant

A Master-level Graduate Research Assistant position is available with the following project topic: Generation of Synthetic Dataset for Imaging Sonar. The project involves the following tasks:1) using a BlueROV2 to gather an initial dataset from Lumut sea; 2) use the acquired images to train a Style Transfer model (GAN or diffusion model).3) develop a 3D subsea environment using Unity (or similar tools)4) generate the synthetic dataset using the Unity environment and the trained Style Transfer model.Candidate will apply for the Master by Research program to start in Jan 2026. An allowance of RM3000 (subject to EPF) will be paid until Oct 2026 (2 semesters); The technical tasks are expected to be completed by then. Data analysis, paper writing and Master thesis preparation can be done on a part-time (extension of contract possible if there is a new project funding). Candidates need a strong background in programming and a strong interest in Deep Learning and Generative AI.
