At Eagleby, we are a community of learners — curious, reflective, and united in our purpose.Step Into Your Next ChapterThe Head of Department (Pedagogy) will lead and sustain a school-wide approach to pedagogy that aligns evidence-based practice with the science of learning.This role will be pivotal in embedding the Eagleby Pedagogical Framework, coaching teachers to implement high-impact, low-variance routines that promote deep understanding, automaticity, and engagement.You will work closely with the Principal, Deputy Principals, and Head of Curriculum, ensuring teaching practice reflects the principles of cognitive load theory, explicit instruction, and reading science.This role focuses on how teachers teach, not what they teach — ensuring instructional quality, clarity, and precision in every learning moment.Responsibilities IncludeLead the consistent implementation of explicit instruction across all classrooms.Coach and mentor teachers to deliver high-impact lessons in reading and foundational literacy.Model and embed instructional routines that support attention, engagement, and retrieval (e.g. daily review, worked examples, turn-and-talks).Support teacher capability development through instructional coaching, professional learning, and feedback cycles.Work collaboratively with the leadership team to align pedagogical practice with the Eagleby SS vision, AIP, and school-wide expectations.Monitor and evaluate the impact of teaching practices through classroom observations, teacher reflections, and student outcomes.Promote a culture of professional dialogue, shared language, and reflective practice grounded in evidence.Please view the role description for a full list of responsibilities.The Perfect FitInstructional leadership grounded in Explicit Instruction and Cognitive Science.Deep knowledge of reading development, including phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension.Coaching and mentoring approaches that build teacher capability and confidence.Data-informed decision-making to improve the effectiveness of pedagogy and student learning.
