That purpose is to transform the power system to enable our society to reduce our carbon emissions and meet our climate change and net zero ambitions.Be part of the transformation!The OpportunityThe role of the Chief Transformation, Technology and Offshore Office (CTTOO) is to vision, lead, transform, digitise, deliver and support the transformational programme to deliver the power system and market to 2030 and beyond maximising the integration of renewables in a sustainable way at an affordable cost taking on board the voices of all aspects of our society, with an ultimate target of having a decarbonised power system in advance of 2050.We are now seeking an ambitious and dynamic Head of Future Markets who will be responsible for delivery of market arrangements for 2030 which can support 80% renewables on average and close to 100% renewables on an instantaneous basis. This will involve developing the scenarios, options and optimum pathways to ensure that this ambition for the market is realised and that demand for electricity is met, whilst at the same time ensuring that security of supply is maintained on the island of Ireland.As Head of Future Markets, you will work closely with the Regulatory Authorities to evolve the market arrangements to promote a secure, reliable, sustainable power system which maximises interconnector trading, renewable integration, and demand flexibility aligned with EU policy evolution. This will include evolving tariffs, as well as the energy, system services, and capacity markets and includes the design and delivery of key programmes such as Scheduling & Dispatch, and the Future Arrangements for System Services.We will look to you to develop an integrated European Strategy which supports and underpins EirGrid’s own strategy. This strategy will clearly identify key focus areas and collaborations with European colleagues to maximise the potential of success. This will include the coordination of EirGrid’s input into future market-related network codes while managing and influencing the implementation of European policies. You will also collaborate with colleagues to develop the TSO’s recommended changes to the market arrangements to enable the future net zero power system.As part of your role, you will lead and motivate a high performing team of experts and thought leaders to deliver on strategic objectives and ensure an engaged and motivated workforce on an enduring basis.You will have a deep understanding of electricity market arrangements and their role in ensuring a secure, affordable, and sustainable energy supply.You will be a member of EirGrid’s management team and as such be expected to actively contribute to the overall achievement of EirGrid’s objectives as well as leading and motivating your own team to deliver on departmental goals which underpin delivery of EirGrid’s strategic ambitions.About YouDeep knowledge of all aspects of market operations and design (energy, system services, capacity) and significant experience with the design and delivery of large complex market change programmes; Experienced leader in the utility or energy sector with a deep understanding of the sector and the potential change disruptors;Degree level qualification in business, commerce, economics or engineering;Significant experience in market modelling and analysis; Deep understanding of the role and value of technology in delivering transformative change;Exceptional relationship management skills, capable of procuring and managing complex partnership structures to deliver highly technical solutions in support of EirGrid’s strategy; Visionary and strategic, able to use data and insights to drive the conversations about changes required for the future;Ambitious, driven and results-oriented via the development of our staff;Ability to adapt quickly to changing circumstances, demonstrate resilience and be comfortable with uncertainty and ambiguity;Capable of influencing at national and international levels and effective in engaging the Board and sub-committees thereof in relevant matters.Closing date for applications21st November 2025We are dedicated to diversity and inclusion at Eirgrid.
