Head of TransportLocation: Chorley, LancashireSalary: £70,000 – £90,000 + 15% Bonus + BenefitsStart Date: December 2025 – January 2026About the CompanyOur client is a leading, privately owned logistics and distribution business with a turnover of around £250 million, operating a nationwide network that delivers exceptional service to major retail and manufacturing partners. With a culture built around continuous improvement and accountability, they are now seeking an accomplished Head of Transport to lead a large-scale transport operation from their Chorley site.The RoleReporting to the Operations Director, the Head of Transport will be responsible for the strategic and day-to-day leadership of the transport function, ensuring the safe, compliant, and cost-effective delivery of goods across the UK. You’ll manage a high-performing management team, a large driver workforce, and a modern fleet — driving improvements in efficiency, service, and sustainability.Key ResponsibilitiesLead and develop the transport management team to deliver operational excellence across multiple sites.Ensure full compliance with all statutory transport legislation, including O-licence undertakings, driver hours, and vehicle maintenance.Own the transport P&L, delivering against budget and identifying opportunities for cost optimisation and performance improvement.Work closely with customers, planning, and warehouse operations to ensure seamless end-to-end service delivery.Champion health, safety, and sustainability initiatives across the transport network.Implement and enhance KPIs, performance reporting, and route optimisation tools.Drive strategic projects relating to fleet renewal, technology integration, and environmental performance.Build and maintain relationships with key internal and external stakeholders, including regulators and major customers.About YouProven experience leading large-scale transport operations within a complex logistics, FMCG, or retail environment.Strong commercial acumen with the ability to manage budgets and deliver cost efficiencies.Excellent leadership and communication skills, able to inspire teams and build an accountable, performance-driven culture.Demonstrable experience in process improvement and implementing best practice transport systems.In-depth knowledge of transport legislation and compliance requirements.Degree educated with CPC National & International qualifications (essential).Rewards and Benefits£70,000 – £90,000 base salary (depending on experience)15% annual performance bonusPension & benefits packageExcellent career development opportunities within a growing and forward-thinking logistics organisation
