Job Description

Job ResponsibilitiesPerforms duties of Small Equipment Operator for Wagener Section Shed. Performs general highway maintenance functions and operate small equipment including but not limited to, dump truck/flatbed, forklift, chipper, roller (less than or equal to 4 tons), etc. Works with a crew of maintenance employees utilizing proper maintenance techniques, while performing duties using manual labor during roadway and right of way maintenance activities. Areas of work may include but are not limited to, signage and pavement markings, driveway installation and maintenance, construction of drainage appurtenances, litter/debris removal, vegetation management, bridge maintenance, patching and paving, etc. Maintains working knowledge and practices of Work zone Safety in accordance with the MUTCD manual. Flags traffic in low and high volume areas to control flow of traffic for protection of workers, equipment and general public during maintenance operations. Assist in the placement of traffic control devices in accordance with the MUTCD manual. Operates power tools and hand tools to perform assigned maintenance activities. Operates standard dump truck with snow plow attachment and salt spreader to remove snow and ice from roadways and bridges during inclement weather. Conducts and documents pre-trip equipment/vehicle inspection in accordance with the Department's most current rules, policies and procedures according to fleet safety. Performs other related duties as assigned.Minimum And Additional RequirementsThere are no minimum training or experience requirements for this classification. Necessary Special Requirement: A valid motor vehicle operator’s license is required. Requires attainment of a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within six (6) months of placement in the position.The physical demands for the essential functions of this position involve bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, climbing, balancing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, grasping and physically manipulating objects of varying size, shape, weight, and material. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. This position requires walking for extended periods, treading rough and uneven terrain, and working in close proximity to motoring traffic and natural environmental hazards. May be required to work outside of normal work schedule, especially during inclement weather and/or other departmental-related emergencies.
