Job SummaryResponsible for carrying out circulation procedures, both automated and manual, and assisting library users as well as maintaining library files and shelves. Essential FunctionsAssist students, faculty, staff and other authorized users regarding library related needs in person and via telephone. Provide back-up information and reference to library users including instruction in the use of the on-line catalog. Release and receive library materials, equipment, etc. Record identifying data and due date on cards to issue books to patrons. Review automated records to compile list of overdue books and issues overdue notice to borrowers.
Inspect returned books for damage, verifies due date, and computes and receives overdue fines. Sort and shelve publications according to Library of Congress Classification and other specified filing systems. Examine materials on shelves to verify accuracy of placement. Schedule the use of computers, and performs minor maintenance of audio-visual equipment, printers and other related library equipment. Assist in the training and supervision of work-study students. Gather, maintain and report statistical information as needed. Perform inventory of library equipment, furniture and materials, under the supervision of a Librarian. Perform clerical keyboarding duties as needed.
