Information Technology - Database Engineer

Job DescriptionKey ResponsibilitiesHelp define the technology roadmap and standards for database technologies covering traditional RDBMSs as well as modern NoSQL / specialized databasesImplement and maintain full operational lifecycle procedures from deployment, to maintenance/patching, backup/recovery and decomm using extensive automationProvide 24x7 operational support of database systems with responsibility for uptime, overall system performance, identifying root cause and implementing improvements to avoid recurrencePerform security compliance activities, e.g. security reviews, implementing security controls, logging etc.Provide end-to-end support and advisory including support required by application developersAny relevant ad-hoc dutiesRequirementsPossess a degree in Information Technology or related fields with good experience in multiple data or database centric rolesStrong understanding of database concepts covering primary MySQL and secondary Microsoft SQL server.Experience is required in the following areas:Strong understanding of operational processes and automationShell scripting, ideally using PythonPerformance, capacity planning and database/query tuning.The ideal candidate will have:Experience working with Continuous Integration and Delivery and how it impacts persistent data tiersExperience working with other infrastructure teams / technologiesDemonstrable experience supporting critical database infrastructureStrong logical and analytical skills with the proven ability to learn new subjects quickly
