Job Description

The Geologist is one of a team within exploration responsible for day to day geological dutiesThese will include (this is not exclusive);Geological mapping, making structural measurements and lithological descriptionsLogging of diamond drill core according to company proceduresLogging of RC drill chips according to company proceduresSampling outcrops and or soil samplingLogging and sampling trenchesOperating GIS software, e.g. QGISThe Geologist reports directly to the Senior Geologist In general, all geological duties Key Responsibilities :General knowledge of the duties and responsibilities of a geologistCompletion of geological mapping accurately, gathering all required dataSystematic logging of drill core, ensuring all data is captured in line with Company proceduresRC drill logging completed in compliance with Company procedures Ensures QAQC systems are followedEngages positively to create a safety culture and reports any accidents or near missesEnsures all captured data is stored correctly on the Company’s IT systemsUtilises data to produce geological maps and interpretations, and shares these with team membersLooks after Company equipment and vehicles, where allocated, and ensures any deficiencies are reportedEnsures camp and offices are kept in good order, either directly or with designated staff (if hired)Prepares reports on activities as requestedPerforms any other similar or related duties as requiredExperience:Mining or exploration experience including mapping and drill loggingSkills in GIS and/or mining/exploration software will be well regardedBasic abilities in structural geology (taking measurements, recording), to be discussed at interviewKnowledge of mineral identification/rock description, to be assessed either through providing rock samples to candidate as part of interview, or through a field assessmentMining or exploration experience including mapping and drill loggingSkills in GIS and/or mining/exploration software will be well regardedBasic abilities in structural geology (taking measurements, recording), to be discussed at interviewKnowledge of mineral identification/rock description, to be assessed either through providing rock samples to candidate as part of interview, or through a field assessmentOthers requirements:Candidate must enjoy fieldwork, and be able to live in the field for extended periodsPractical, able to solve problemsPays attention to detailOrganizedTeamworkResilient in difficult conditionsQualifications (Education & Certifications):Essential:BSc in geologyA good level of spoken and written EnglishKSA (manual gearbox) Light duty driving licenseMS Office skillsDesirable:First Aid qualificationSignificant walking is required, to cover the terrain adequately. At times physical labour may be needed, for example to move core boxes or samples, if field assistants are not available, using correct manual handling techniqueDriving 10%Walking and standing 80%Sitting 10%Work is performed year-round, predominantly outside, with exposure to inclement and frequently hot weather. Terrain is demanding to walk overPossible environments with high levels of noise, dust, dirt, moving drilling machinery, etc
