Junior IBM Cloud Kubernetes Platform Engineer

IntroductionAs IBM Cloud has been standardizing on Kubernetes and containerized software IBM Cloud Kubernetes Service (IKS) has become the backbone of IBM Cloud.As Customers are moving more and more workload into Kubernetes and OpenShift environments, the platform is rapidly growing, it is the fastest growing area in IBM Cloud right now.Our team is working closely with the community and the maintainers of the key components. We are also working closely with RedHat. Besides our key customers, most of the other IBM Cloud services are also running on our managed Kubernetes and OpenShift platform.The opportunity is to join this team for skilled individuals who want to be part of building a platform we are proud of and Customers love to use. We have team members from all around the world, from the United States, United Kingdom, Germany, India and Australia.Your Role And ResponsibilitiesWe are looking for developers who have worked with IP networks, virtualization technologies, understand containers and not afraid of learning Kubernetes to deliver platform for business critical applications for both IBM services as well as Customer deployments.The successful candidate will work as a Software Developer who is going to be part of IBM Cloud organization.If you are passionate about solving hard problems and you want to be part of a team who builds the next generation of IBM Cloud, the opportunity is to work on Kubernetes and OpenShift internals, load balancers, proxies, DNS and much more. If you want to challenge yourself, learn new things and grow this may be a good opportunity for you.Preferred EducationHigh School Diploma/GEDRequired Technical And Professional ExpertiseBachelor’s in Engineering, Computer Science, or relevant experience.Skilled in specifying, building, testing, deploying, maintaining, and supporting production-grade codeExcellent troubleshooting ability, clear and thorough documentation practices, and strong communication skills for cross-functional collaboration.Preferred Technical And Professional Experience Containerization & Orchestration: Expertise in Docker, Kubernetes, and related technologies for scalable deployments. Networking & Service Mesh: Strong understanding of network protocols, traffic routing, and service mesh frameworks (e.g., Istio). DNS & TLS: Proficient in domain name resolution and secure communication protocols, including certificate management and encryption. Reverse Proxies: Experience with proxy configuration and load balancing for high-availability systems. Software Development: Solid programming background; Golang highly preferred for backend and cloud-native development. Scripting: Skilled in Bash/Shell scripting for automation and system tasks. CI/CD Pipelines: Hands-on experience with Tekton, Jenkins, and GitHub Actions for automated build and deployment. Monitoring & Observability: Familiar with Prometheus, Grafana, and Sysdig for system health and performance monitoring. Infrastructure as Code: Proficient in Terraform and Ansible for automated provisioning and configuration management.
