We deliver 1.1 billion gallons of high-quality drinking water per day to 8.3 million New York City residents and more than 1 million people in Upstate New York, and we collect and treat an average of 1.3 billion gallons of wastewater per day.The Bureau of Sustainability Environmental Testing Laboratory provides testing for the BEC Asbestos Enforcement Unit in accordance with New York State, Department of Health Regulations. The Lab works in providing quick, efficient and accurate results to the Asbestos Enforcement unit. The laboratory provides legally defensible reports for Office of Administrative Trials and Hearings/Environmental Control Board, to pursue appropriate remediation activities. These results will help facilitate rapid remediation control of asbestos fibers to ensure safety of citizen across New York City.The BEC Laboratory seeks to hire an employee in the civil service title Clerical Associate, office title Laboratory Helper to work in the laboratory located in Queens, New York. The Laboratory Helper will be needed in assisting and ensuring continuous and efficient response from the lab. The selected candidate must comply with adhering to all quality control and standard operating procedures outlined in the laboratory Quality and Standard Operating Procedural Manuals. The Laboratory helper will have responsibility in performing clerical work stated such as entering and filing lab reports, processing incoming samples brought by Enforcement, organizing sample tracking forms for storage, copying and scanning lab reports for distribution to Enforcement, and archiving and retrieving documents. Other tasks may include daily glassware cleaning for lab use, completing purchase orders for laboratory items, inventory keeping and assisting in the preparation of samples for disposal.CLERICAL ASSOCIATE - 10251Minimum QualificationsQualification RequirementsA four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent approved by a State's department of education or a recognized accrediting organization and one year of satisfactory clerical experience.Skills RequirementKeyboard familiarity with the ability to type at a minimum of 100 key strokes (20 words) per minute.Preferred SkillsAbility to perform clerical functions efficiently and accurately. Ability to carry out assigned tasks decisively and accurately and work effectively.
