Our facility is equipped with state-of-the-art instrumentation, including automated liquid handling systems, and is supported by a strong focus on quality, compliance, and innovation.Position Overview:We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Laboratory Technician with strong molecular biology expertise to join our team. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience in DNA extractions and qPCR, preferably within a plant diagnostics or molecular plant pathology context. In addition to laboratory testing, this role involves contributing to the operational flow of the laboratory, including sample management, consumables ordering, technical reporting, and client support.Key Responsibilities:Perform plant DNA/RNA extractions and qPCR assays according to established SOPs.Ensure accurate setup, execution, and interpretation of molecular assays.Process client samples, maintain proper sample traceability, and manage chain-of-custody records.Contribute to laboratory operations, including consumables inventory, reagent ordering, and stock control.Prepare and dispatch sample collection kits to clients; provide client-facing technical support when required.Generate, review, and deliver technical reports with a high level of accuracy and clarity.Assist in maintaining the laboratory’s quality management system, including record keeping, compliance documentation, and incident logging.Support data management and ensure proper storage, backup, and traceability of results.Collaborate with colleagues to maintain a safe, efficient, and professional laboratory environment.Operate and maintain laboratory instruments (automation experience advantageous).Qualifications & Experience:Minimum: BSc degree in Molecular Biology, Biotechnology, Plant Biotechnology, or a closely related field with 5+ years work experience.Preferred: Postgraduate qualification (MSc or equivalent) in Molecular Biology, Plant Pathology, or related discipline.Strong practical knowledge of DNA/RNA extraction and qPCR workflows.Familiarity with plant pathogen diagnostics and molecular assay troubleshooting.Experience in laboratory operations, consumables management, and data reporting.Excellent attention to detail, record-keeping, and organisational skills.Strong communication skills, with the ability to interact professionally with clients.Computer literacy and proficiency in data handling; prior experience with LIMS systems is an advantage.Team player with the ability to work independently in a fast-paced diagnostic laboratory environment.Required Skills:Experience with automated liquid handling platforms (Hamilton or similar).Knowledge of plant pathology, especially viral and fungal pathogen diagnostics.Previous work in a qPCR-based diagnostic or molecular testing laboratory.
