About The RoleThe GAIN strategy 2022 - 2027 puts environment at the core of GAIN's work and reiterates the commitment to make GAIN the 'greenest nutrition organization both organizationally and programmatically'. As part of the larger 'Nourishing Food Pathways' programme, GAIN is implementing a workstream which seeks to identify and increase access to foods which will help to maximize nutritional benefits and minimize their environmental impact in Mozambique, Indonesia and Bangladesh.GAIN is seeking to recruit a Lead, Environment and Nutrition to provide strategic and technical leadership within the Programme Technical Team with special focus on environmental aspects of achieving healthy diets.The Lead, Environment and Nutrition will work closely with internal and external stakeholders, ensuring that GAIN's work on environmental actions is delivered to the highest possible standards. The Lead, Environment and Nutrition will be responsible for collaborating on resource mobilisation and building global strategic partnerships whilst supporting GAIN countries in designing and implementing new activities to transform food systems through an environmental lens.This role will be offered on a two (2) year fixed term contract, subject to availability of funding and will be based either London, Nairobi, New Delhi, Berlin or Brussels. GAIN encourages early applications and reserves the right to close the advert ahead of the advertised deadline if we receive a high volume of interest.This role is open to applicants based in one of the advertised countries with the existing right to live and work in the country of application.Key Responsibilities includeOversee GAIN's programmatic work and activities related to environmental action for health and the planet, including defining the overall direction of the work aligned to the GAIN Strategy. Act as the focal point for GAIN's Environment work, both internally (including to SMT and the Board) and externally, and drive internal and external awareness of GAIN's work on environment. Build and maintain a network of relevant partners and experts in the field and proactively seek their input to help share and grow the environment work and contribute to existing global discourse. Advise / guide project teams during the design process in GAIN countries and provide technical know-how to deliver strategically relevant, sound and feasible project designs with an environmental angle. Periodically review all of GAIN's specific environment-focused projects in close collaboration with country Project Managers and other team members, with participation in QUAD calls as relevant. Convene GAIN staff to share projects updates and learnings. Collaborate with KL focal points to define learning agenda for the nexus of nutrition and environment and collaborate on designing M&E framework. Generate resource mobilization opportunities in collaboration with the Chief Technical Officer and other Thematic/Programme Leads and lead on proposal development for environmental related initiatives. Manage and mentor the environment team, interns and/or consultants, and lead on the recruitment of key staff including country-based roles involved in environment related projects and initiatives. About YouThe ideal candidate will be a strategic and experienced leader with the vision and expertise to drive complex, multi-country programmes at the intersection of climate, food systems and nutrition.You will bring strategic leadership and project management expertise with demonstrable experience leading or supporting multi-country environment or climate programmes at a senior level, ideally across African and Asian contexts. You will have a strong track record of providing technical leadership or advisory support on food systems, nutrition, climate change, or broader environmental sustainability issues.As a natural leader, you will possess the ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and manage complex partnerships effectively. You will have established sector networks and be confident in engaging and influencing diverse stakeholders such as donors, government counterparts and other external stakeholders across sectors and geographies.Applicants must have extensive knowledge of environmental challenges and opportunities in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs), with a strong understanding of the interconnections between climate change, food systems and nutrition.Familiarity with global climate finance mechanisms is highly desirable, and private sector experience would be an advantage.A postgraduate qualification in environmental science, food policy, food systems, sustainable development, or a closely related discipline.About Our OfferThe starting gross salary per annum, depending on experience is as follows:UK - 64,572 - 69,180 GBPIndia - 2,934,888 - 3,355,596 INRKenya - 6,236,928 - 7,127,928 KESGermany - 74,844 - 80,184 EURBelgium - 74,844 - 80,184 EUROur working conditionsAll of our positions are based in one or more of GAIN's designated offices as stated on our job advertisements. Successful candidates will be based in one of GAIN's country offices and must have the existing right to live and work within a reasonably commutable distance of the relevant city / cities in which the role is advertised.
