The faculty offers undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in the major scientific disciplines and a professional degree in Pharmacy.The Department of Mathematics and Applied Mathematics is seeking to employ an experienced academic at the rank of Lecturer in the Mathematics, specifically in the areas of Mathematics or Mathematics Education. The Department has an active research programme covering various fields including Algebra, Topology, Coding Theory, Graph Theory, Category Theory, Mathematical Physics, Computational Finance, Numerical Analysis, Mathematical Biology, and Mathematics Education. The Department plays a vital role in a research-intensive university, focusing on both Pure and Applied Mathematics research, as well as teaching mathematics in the Faculty of Natural Sciences and providing undergraduate service courses throughout the university. The ideal candidate is expected to bring experience, expertise,and enthusiasm to this role.A vacancy exists in the department for a Lecturer to teach Mathematics in the Extended Curriculum Programme.The successful candidate will be responsible for the following key areas:Facilitate learning at undergraduate and postgraduate levels in Mathematics and Applied MathematicsConduct research and publish on topics related to Mathematics or Mathematics EducationUndertake undergraduate and/or postgraduate supervisionUndertake curriculum development and assessmentUndertake community engagement and outreachMinimum RequirementsMSc in Mathematics and currently registered for a PhD with clear completion planDemonstrated teaching experience at the undergraduate and postgraduate levelsA record of successful postgraduate supervision at the honours levelEvidence of research output in the form of a research publication(s) in accredited journalsAdvantageous CriteriaExperience in teaching mathematics in an Extended Curriculum ProgammeExperience in teaching mathematics and applied mathematics beyond first-yearExperience in educational or academic development workExperience in working in a teamCompetenciesAdaptability and the ability to operate in a diverse environmentStudent focused approachAbility and interest to supervise at the postgraduate level specialising in industry directed researchPlanning and organising skillsExcellent verbal and written communication skills in EnglishPresentation and facilitation skillsKnowledge and skills in the discipline and in the core strategic areas, namely learning and teaching, research and scholarship and community engagement.In your application, you are encouraged to highlight your strengths and include anything else you deem exceptional and outstanding to be considered by the selection panel.
