Wherever you are, you'll find AliExpress's spirit of innovation and collaboration.We seek to hire a legal counsel of commercial legal who will be a key member of the growing legal team supporting AliExpress consumer facing e-commerce platform and services in South Korea. The attorney will be based in Seoul.The key areas and requirements that we are looking for are those listed below:Primary Responsibilities: Reporting to General Counsel or Senior Legal Counsel, AliExpress, advise on legal aspects of the platform’s global expansion of current and proposed new e-commerce offerings. Provide advice to business teams on legal aspects of the implementation of commercial agreements, business models and strategies, business operations, marketing activities, and product offerings. Handle overseas litigation, arbitration, regulatory / law enforcement investigations, and other regulatory matters of AliExpress. Address and respond to document requests from overseas government regulators and law enforcement agencies; evaluate associated litigation and compliance risks and advise the AliExpress business teams accordingly. Conduct comprehensive risk assessment and analysis to mitigate risk and promote efficiency in AliExpress’ operations and processes. Provide legal advice to the AliExpress business teams and coordinate compliance-related training and other initiatives. Assist with the set up and maintain the legal and compliance frameworks on our business activities, and to support the maintenance of relevant approvals or licenses where relevant. Research local laws and regulations in foreign jurisdictions and manage outside counsel. Update and review commercial agreements. Develop in-house legal tools and policies, and conduct trainings to business units.Requirements: Legal qualification to practice law, preferably Singapore, Hong Kong, or England and Wales. For senior legal counsel, 10+ years, and for legal counsel, 7+ years of post-qualification experience at a leading law firm and/or corporation. In-house experience is welcome, especially if e-commerce/tech related. International litigation experience, having worked with foreign regulators or law enforcement, or work experience at a multinational enterprise are all highly preferred. Strong proficiency in both English and Chinese (i.e. including ability to hold business meetings in Chinese, and reading and writing in Chinese). Other language proficiencies will also support an application. Highly-motivated and able to work independently and under pressure in a start-up environment. Sincere interest in technology, innovation and business. Strong commercial sense with solid foundation in legal training. High integrity and desire to collaborate with others. Open to frequent travel internationally and to China (such as to Hangzhou headquarters and Hong Kong, if based outside of mainland China) when feasible. Coordination and teamwork are pivotal to this role. Successful candidates must not only be cognizant of relevant overseas laws/precedents and regulations, but also be able to understand the AliExpress business inside-out and coordinate successfully with our internal clients (various business teams and specialist legal teams). Day-to-day work also requires dynamic liaison with external counsel and overseas regulatory institutions to help manage a substantial caseload and mitigate associated business risks.
