Community Outreach Coordinator (Regular, Full-Time)Education & Public ProgramsReporting to the Manager, NexGenLA, the Community Outreach Coordinator provides administrative and logistical coordination of NexGenLA Community and Outreach programs. LACMA collaborates yearly with several community sites across LA County to build resources within under-resourced neighborhoods to support and sustain the arts. Programs range from free multigenerational art workshops such as Communities Create LA!, at partner parks and libraries to teen enrichment art programs, including a Teen Advisory Committee.
The Community Outreach Coordinator schedules a team of Teaching Artists, coordinates with site staff, and contributes to the maintenance of a budget of $250K. LACMA is embarking on several new collaborative arts-integration projects with community members across Los Angeles County, as well as new digital initiatives in these areas. LACMA seeks a creative individual to help re-envision our programs, build new community collaborations, and help expand existing ones. ResponsibilitiesCollaborates with the Manager, NexGenLA and the Youth & Family team in developing high quality programming and curricular materials for Community programs.
Works with part-time Teaching Artists to conceive interactive, participatory art workshops for multi-generational audiences with diverse backgrounds, with a focus on youth and young adult audiences. Monitors part-time Teaching Artist lessons to ensure adherence to best practices in museum education and culturally responsive teaching. Schedules Teaching Artists and LACMA program visits at participating community sites. Contributes to the evaluation of Community and Outreach programs and assessment of part-time staff, maintains statistical information, and documents compelling evidence to demonstrate impact. Assists Development staff and Manager, NexGenLA and the Youth & Family team with grants and reports.
Supports project administration for Manager, NexGenLA including completing work orders, ordering supplies, processing and tracking payments, and conducting other administrative duties. Participates in the implementation of the communications and marketing plans for Community Programs. Works with the Manager, NexGenLA and the Youth & Family team to propose new program offerings that reflect current priorities within libraries and community centers. Researches and develops new collaborations with communities in strategic areas of Los Angeles County, including Pomona, South LA and the San Fernando Valley.
Collaborates with Manager, NexGenLA and the Youth & Family team to continue advancing the role of arts education in a culturally diverse countywide population. Participates in departmental initiatives and on department committees. Performs other duties or special projects as assigned. Maintains regular and reliable attendance. BenefitsThe expected hourly rate for this Los Angeles, CA based position is $24. 00-$25. 00, subject to change, and the position is eligible for LACMA's comprehensive benefits package, including pension plan. QualificationsBachelor's degree in either art history, art education or related field. Familiarity with developing lesson plans using object-based teaching. Ability to conduct independent research in areas relevant to LACMA's collection. A minimum 3 years of experience developing programs and working with communities, as well as working with other arts advocates. Experience monitoring budgets over at least $30,000 is preferred. Maintain and develop knowledge of current arts education regulations and best practices. Strong working knowledge of Google Suite, MS Office, and TessituraReliable transportation to travel to locations within the Los Angeles County region. Spanish language proficiency is preferred.
