Our dedicated team of educators, support staff, and administrators work collaboratively to create dynamic learning experiences that inspire curiosity, critical thinking, and creativity.Joining our team means becoming part of a supportive community that celebrates diversity, innovation, and collaboration.Reporting to the Assistant Director of Facilities, the Manager – Mechanical is responsible for the administration, management, and coordination of the building mechanical trade workforce engaged in the maintenance, repair, and improvement of facilities and equipment. The position ensures that preventative maintenance programs are implemented, minor renovations and new construction projects are completed efficiently, and that operations meet safety, regulatory, and performance standards.Duties And ResponsibilitiesSupervises mechanical and electrical trades personnel, including planning, organizing, assigning, scheduling, and coordinating daily and project-based work.Provides leadership and direction to the Electrical, Plumbing, and HVAC foremen/leadhands and the team, ensuring alignment with operational priorities and project goals.Reviews and approves Purchase Orders, submit requisitions and service requests, and process invoices for payment.Oversee inspection, maintenance, and replacement of systems and equipment, ensuring they function efficiently and reliably.Establishes and maintains inspection and preventative maintenance schedules to ensure systems and equipment are safe, compliant, and well-maintained.Ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and in accordance with specifications, industry standards, and organizational goals.Administers annual budgets for accounts that authorize expenditures for materials, supplies, and contracted services.Prepares and maintains a five-year Strategic Facilities plan to forecast and prioritize mechanical and building infrastructure projects.Ensures compliance with WorkSafeBC, WHMIS, Safety Authority, Fraser Health, and other applicable codes, standards, and regulations.Assists in implementing and maintaining health and safety programs related to mechanical operations, ensuring safe work practices and compliance with corporate policies and regulatory standards.Coordinates and delivers safety orientations, training, and certification programs for mechanical and trades staff in accordance with established timelines, while fostering a strong safety culture through regular safety meetings, toolbox talks, and workplace inspections.Leads investigations into workplace incidents or near misses and ensures corrective actions are implemented promptly.Liaises with contractors, consultants, and vendors regarding project progress, technical issues, and quality of work.Participate in an on-call rotation to address facility emergencies and on call to manage emergency response. Conducts regular sites, shops, and equipment inspections to monitor compliance with standards, policies, and safety procedures.Identifies opportunities for energy efficiency, environmental sustainability, and system optimization; manages projects to achieve related goals.Collaborates with HR on recruitment, selection, performance reviews, and disciplinary matters for trades personnel.Coaches, mentors, and develop team members, supporting professional growth and succession planning within the department.Participates in emergency response planning and assists with the coordination of mechanical system shutdowns and restorations.Prepares reports, correspondence, and recommendations for management review.Qualifications An d ExperienceGrade 12 graduation along with related management courses and a Red Seal certification in a mechanical trade, or a Diploma/Degree in Building Technology.3 years leadership experience in a progressive unionized environment.Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing.Working knowledge of building mechanical systems including DDC. Working knowledge of computers, and MS Word.Thorough understanding of Worksafe, WHMIS, Safety Authority and Fraser Health.Ability to complete labor and materials take-offs, work coordination, cost estimating, project planning and cost control.Self-motivated with the willingness and ability to take independent action and accountability.Proven judgment, problem-solving, and decision-making capabilities.Valid BC Driver's License.PLEASE NOTE In accordance with the Criminal Record Review Act, successful applicants will be required to consent to a Criminal Record Check prior to employment.We thank you for your interest in the Langley School District however, only those persons selected for interviews will be contacted.
