Job Description

Marine Research Instrumentation Engineer (AUVs/ROVs/CODAR/Gliders)Coastal and Marine Resources (CMR) Core LabPosition SummaryThe Marine Instrumentation Engineer working for CMR's Asset Integrity to provide all needed support on daily basis to manage and maintain all marine robotics and labs components and ensure the availability and reliability of the systems. Responsible for modification and developments of marine robotics and instruments.System Overview:CMR has a number of marine robotics such Autonomous Underwater Vehicle (AUV), Remotely Operated Vehicles (ROV) and Unmanned Surface Vehicles which requires high tech skills and troubleshooting capabilities. In addition, handling the ISO 17025 calibration lab requires list of responsibilities such as calibration audit review and preparation. Maintain instruments calibration before due date (17 CTD,15 ADCP, 4 rosettes, etc). Supporting all required field work offshore and onshore.ResponsibilitiesAdd and configure underwater scientific sensors for all marine instruments and vehicles.Proactively monitor and maintain systems software backups, calibration due dates and update critical spare part list and inventory.Troubleshoot and rectify marine robotics and instruments breakdowns and give root cause analysis on incidents.Ensuring all marine robotics and instruments components are operational and up to the facility expectation.Managing scheduled preventive maintenance of marine equipment.Maintaining scientific system servers, GNSS, routers and network switches in RV Thuwal.Support and maintain weather stations, Buoys, Argos,floats.Proposing system enhancement initiatives and working with various department on system enhancement and expansion initiatives/projects.Provide afterhours/weekend support where and when necessary.Respond to site in emergency cases.Perform other applicable tasks and duties assigned within the realm of the employee's knowledge, skills and abilities in the field of his/her position.Review and write Standard Operation Procedures (SOPs).Performing periodic performance tests of systems SOP.Complying with the Campus HSE safety Standards and procedures.RequirementsCompetenciesGood knowledge in relevant marine instrumentation engineering standards.Experience in ROV piloting and repairing.Strong knowledge in the application of software solutions in marine robotics.Good knowledge in various operating systems such as MS windows, Linux, Raspberry PI and Arduino.Excellent knowledge of acoustic devices and instrumentations.Experience with the understanding of electronic circuit diagrams.Ability to report “in detail” issues relevant to marine robotics and instrumentation.Strong knowledge about fiber optics splicing and testing.High competency in MS Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, Powerpoint, Autocad etc.).Good command of both written and spoken English.Qualifications & ExperienceBachelor or higher degree in Instrumentation and Control Systems Engineering or relevant field 5+ years of experience in marine instrumentation.Experience operating and maintaining CODARExperience operating and maintaining Gliders
