Job Description

Opening position for a Master’s student in our research group in collaboration with the MSAM centre at UWaterloo. Canadian citizenship or permanent residence is required for this project. Residual stress in additively manufactured (AM) components remains a major challenge for achieving high performance and long-term durability in aerospace, biomedical, and automotive applications. This master’s project focuses on developing vibration-assisted stress relief techniques for parts produced via laser powder bed fusion. The work will involve resonant frequency excitation, sub-harmonic vibration, and ultrasonic peening to reduce distortion, improve dimensional accuracy, and enhance mechanical properties—without relying on traditional heat treatments. The position is fully funded, including the student’s stipend, salary and all project-related experimental costs. The successful candidate will be co-supervised by Professors Salehian and Toyserkani. For further information, please contact me at: salehian@uwaterloo.ca
