Job DescriptionOEI (O'Brien Engineering & Architecture) is seeking an Mechanical Controls Design Engineer (Building Automation and Controls focused) to support facility design projects nationwide, primarily in support of US federal customers (including Veterans Affairs, Army Corps of Engineers, Air Force, Space Force, Homeland Security). OEI has a long, nearly 40-year history and a strong pipeline for growth extending into 2035. Key Responsibilities:Building system concepts and documentation process from schematics through construction administration phases. Experience with central plants, hydronic, steam/ VRF and energy recovery systems. Working knowledge of building and building system codes (IBC, IECC, IMC, ASHRAE standards and NFPA standards. Proficient in Revit, building load and energy modeling software (OEI uses Trane Trace 700), Bluebeam, AutoCADDesign mechanical systems, air and water side and related controls. Possess general working knowledge of different mechanical systems; stay up to date on industry advancements including best-practices for applicability. Supervise the installation of the designed systems and equipment. Prepare cost estimates, specifications, and design analyses. Attend client meetings and represent the mechanical interests of the firm. Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited college or university. 7+ years of experience designing mechanical HVAC systems for commercial buildings, health care and federal projects. PE License required, LEED accreditation a plus. This role will require occasional travel to project sites.
