SummaryVISN 10 Hub and Spoke Network is seeking a fee basis Cardiac Echocardiography Technician to join our team. This unique position offers the opportunity to serve the VISN 10 Hub and Spoke Network. The incumbent will provide cardiac echocardiograms on a fee basis. This opportunity is on a Fee for Service Basis. Compensation will be based on the services provided. The 2-page Resume requirement does not apply to this occupational series. Basic and Advanced Cardiac Life Support certifications are desirableTraining which does not result in official certification does not meet this definitionMay qualify based on being covered by the Grandfathering Provision as described in the VA Qualification Standard for this occupation (only applicable to current VHA employees who are in this occupation and meet the criteria)In addition to the basic requirements - you must meet the following: ExperienceAt least 1 year of experience comparable to the GS-7 grade level which demonstrates the knowledge - skills - abilities - and other characteristics related to the duties of the positions to be filledIn addition - the candidate must demonstrate the following KSAs: Demonstrated Knowledge - Skills and Abilities Knowledge of the correct use of invasive patient monitoring equipment specific to anesthesiologyKnowledge of basic electrocardiography (EKG)Skill and ability to troubleshoot equipment - often while the patient is anesthetizedSkill and ability to maintain sterility during proceduresKnowledge and understanding of arterial pressure line wave forms including the ability to recognize and distinguish normal from abnormal - artifact from abnormality - and forewarn the physician or anesthetist of an impending life-threatening situationKnowledge of anesthesiology supplies - medications - and equipment appropriate to more difficult anesthetic procedures such as those found in inpatient settings with more acutely ill patientsCertificationNo certification is requiredhowever - Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certifications are desirablePreferred Experience: Six months experience in operating diagnostic and therapeutic equipment covered by this occupationExperience gained in the operation of equipment for animal diagnosis or treatment may count toward the six months of experience preferredAbility to learn OR D intravenous catheter insertionPreferred Certification: Successful completion of an approved certification from the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) as a Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) or from Cardiovascular Credentialling International (CCI) as a Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS)Reference: For more information on this qualification standard - please visit https://www.va.gov/ohrm/QualificationStandards/Physical Requirements: Duties are performed in areas designated for the Cardiology Hub and Spoke NetworkThe Cardiac Echocardiography Technician must be able to travel to treatment areas with ease while pushing an Echo MachineThe Cardiac Echocardiography Technician must be able to stand for up to 8 - 10 hours while providing patient careThe Cardiac Echocardiography Technician must be able to lift 20 pounds of equipment - supplies and recordsThe Cardiac Echocardiography Technician must be able To manipulate the probes during the procedure - pushing against the patient's chest to obtain the appropriate imagesAdditionally - the Cardiac Echocardiography Technician will be required to transport Veterans on stretchers - beds - and wheelchairsThere is the potential for extended periods of sitting at computer terminalsThe Cardiac Echocardiography Technician is expected to use proper preventive ergonomic techniques to perform duties.DutiesDuties include but are not limited to: Ability to produce diagnostic quality images and Doppler frequency shift recordings using M-mode - two-dimensional - pulsed and continuous wave Doppler spectral display - and color flow Doppler imagingKnowledge of normal echocardiographic findings and deviations produced by a wide variety of cardiovascular diseasesAbility to perform complex procedures such as cardiac studies of the four chambers of the heart and valves using sector scanning techniques to detect stenotic and incompetent valves - chamber enlargement - and pericardial effusion and cardiovascular studies deriving pressure gradients across obstructed valves - etcAbility to perform complementary ultrasonic examinations (including noninvasive) transthoracic - Bubble studies and contrast echocardiography - (invasive) stress echocardiography - and transesophageal echocardiographyAbility to adapt transducer positioning - instrument controls - and examination techniques to the individual patient being studied and the problem being evaluated including recognizing pertinent abnormalities and documenting abnormal findings .Independently works with the Imaging Capture SystemUses the Modality Work list and Clinical Procedures to link the clinic visit and results to the consultCompletes encounters on all ECHOs performed -
