Whether you're operating advanced water treatment systems or managing solid waste and underground infrastructure, you’ll play a vital role in protecting public health and the environment.If you’re ready to roll up your sleeves for a career that combines purpose, precision, and progress, we’d love to hear from you.General DescriptionUnder general supervision, the Meter Technician carries out the operation, testing, maintenance, and repair of water meters and associated equipment to support the continuity and accuracy of the water metering network.ResponsibilitiesInstall residential and commercial water meters and wiring.Perform regular maintenance, testing and troubleshooting of water meters, and initiate the repair or replacement as required. Coordinate installation and repair of water bleeders. Operate water bleeders and assist in maintaining records relating to the water bleeder program. Respond, investigate, and resolve customer concerns and enquiries.Collect water quality samples and investigate/conduct water pressure tests in response to consumer complaints. Accurately read water meters for accurate billing of water consumption. Document daily tasks in detailed work orders. Perform other related duties as required.QualificationsKNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:Skilled in the use of repair tools and equipment used in the plumbing and electrical industry. Ability to install wire and cable. Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot by responding to malfunctions, diagnosing the problem, and initiating the appropriate repairs.Proven ability to plan and organize work to adhere to changing priorities and deadlines.High degree of attention to detail and accuracy.Knowledge and proficiency in applicable occupational health and safety regulations and appropriate use of personal protective equipment.Ability to work under minimal supervision, demonstrating responsibility and reliability.Ability to communicate respectfully, effectively, and professionally with co-workers and residents. Education And ExperienceHigh School Diploma or GED equivalent required.One (1) year of related experience working in a utility operation and maintenance environment is required.Past experience in meter installation, maintenance, and repair is an asset.Must obtain and maintain Alberta Environment Water Distribution Level I certification within two (2) years of hire date. Other RequirementsSubmission of a Criminal Record Check. A valid Class five (5) Operator’s Licence is required as the incumbent will be required to operate a personal or municipal vehicle for business use on a regular basis. Submission of a three-year driver’s abstract is required. Must be willing to work outside in all weather conditions. Ability to work a rotating shift that includes holidays, evening/night shifts, and weekends. Immunizations are strongly recommended for work in unsanitary conditions. Must be medically and physically able to perform all duties of the position on an ongoing basis.
