Job Description

SummaryThe Curator will manage all aspects of the historic site collections, including care, conservation , organization, records, storage , exhibition and security . Essential Duties And ResponsibilitiesResearches, oversees and provides care for the entire museum collection, including library and archival collections, using accepted methods, theories, procedures and practices. Develops and leads interpretive tours for children and adults. Assists in development and implementation of educational programs and special events. Plans and executes museum exhibits. Assists with training and coordination of site volunteers.

Writes and administers grants for collections, conservation, exhibits, and related projectsQualification RequirementsTo perform this job successfully , an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily . The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required . Bachelor’s Degree in American History, Museum Studies or related studies, and a minimum of three (3) years of relevant experience. Knowledge of collections management procedures. Knowledge and skill in the use of collections software, preferably Past Perfect. Knowledge of early American history, Pennsylvania German culture, and decorative arts preferred.

Knowledge of 18 th century farm life, practices and equipment is preferred. Ability to plan and implement a collections care program. Ability to plan, organize and present interpretive programs, special events and exhibits. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, volunteers and the public. Ability to express ideas clearly and concisely, orally and in writing. Must be computer literate. Must have strong organizational skills with attention to detail.
