Job SummaryThis position provides administrative and customer service support for library operations. MAJOR DUTIESAnswers telephone and greets patrons; provides information and assistance. Assists patrons in locating resources and archival materials. Provides assistance to patrons using library technology and equipment. Receives and processes library fines and fees. Assists patrons with Interlibrary Loan requests; processes incoming and outgoing materials. Assists with the library’s archiving functions as assigned. Assists with operations of the library’s Reading Center as assigned. Assists with the maintenance of catalogs and serials. Assists with the library’s collection development and maintenance functions.
Trains and supervises the work of student workers. Searches, interprets and verifies bibliographic records or other data on automated systems; transfers and receives information electronically from one system to another. Maintains computer databases used to locate library materials. Assists faculty with course reserve requests and resolves problems related to copyrights and other issues; refers complex problem to appropriate personnel. Processes complex serial added publications; processes claims for outstanding orders. Answers routine inquiries and refers patrons in need of professional assistance to Librarians. Takes actions to deal with disruptive or problem patrons. Performs related duties as assigned.

The supervisor spot-checks completed work for compliance with procedures and the nature and propriety of the final results. GUIDELINESGuidelines include college and library policies and procedures.

COMPLEXITY/SCOPE OF WORKThe work consists of related duties in support of assigned library operations. Frequent interruptions contribute to the complexity of the position. The purpose of this position is to perform duties in support of assigned library operations. Success in this position contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of those operations. CONTACTSContacts are typically with co-workers, other university personnel, faculty, staff, students, and members of the general public.
Contacts are typically to give or exchange information, to resolve problems, to provide services, or to motivate or influence persons. PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ WORK ENVIRONMENTThe work is typically performed while intermittently sitting, standing, stooping or walking. The employee frequently lifts light and occasionally heavy objects. The work is typically performed in a library. SUPERVISORY AND MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITYThis position has direct supervision over assigned student workers. Minimum QualificationsKnowledge and level of competency commonly associated with completion of specialized training in the field of work, in addition to basic skills typically associated with a high school education.
Experience sufficient to thoroughly understand the work of subordinate positions to be able to answer questions and resolve problems, usually associated with one to three years experience or service. Annual salary $28,188. 00 with excellent benefits, including generous leave time.
