Job SummaryThe Deckhand is responsible for assisting with the daily operations and maintenance of the vessel.
This role involves a variety of tasks related to the safety, cleanliness, and functionality of the Vessel, ensuring a smooth and efficient operation. Key ResponsibilitiesMaintenance and Cleaning: Perform regular cleaning and maintenance of the vessel, including decks, mechanical and safety equipment’s. Assist with painting, varnishing, and general upkeep of the vessel’s exterior and interior. Mooring And AnchoringAssist with docking and undocking procedures. Handle mooring lines, anchor equipment, and ensure secure and safe operations. Safety And SecurityParticipate in safety drills and training sessions. Maintain knowledge of safety protocols and emergency procedures.
Monitor and report any safety or environmental hazards or equipment malfunctions. Cargo HandlingAssist with the loading and unloading of cargo. Secure cargo properly and ensure it is stowed safely. Operational SupportAssist in navigation and watchkeeping duties as directed by senior officers. Operate deck machinery and equipment under supervision. General AssistanceProvide general support to the crew and officers as needed. Assist with any other duties as directed by the Marine Operations Manager, Harbor Master, or Captain. QualificationsEducation: High school diploma or equivalent. Experience: Previous maritime experience preferred but not required. Certification asset:
Open Water Diver (from any recognized certifying agencies)Skills: Strong communication and teamwork skills. Physical fitness and the ability to perform manual labor. Basic knowledge of marine equipment and operations. Ability to work in varying weather conditions. Efficient swimmerWorking ConditionsThis role involves working in outdoor and indoor environments, often in varying weather conditions. The position may require long hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays. Physical demands include lifting heavy objects, standing for extended periods, and performing manual tasks.
