Job Description

The Personnel Commission announces an OPEN and PROMOTIONAL recruitment. This recruitment will result in the establishment of one integrated eligibility list. Promotional candidates will have seniority points added to final passing scores (. 25 of a point for every year of classified service up to a maximum of 5 points). This list will be used to fill current and future vacancies and will be active for one year or until canceled. (The names of eligible candidates on the current list will be merged to the new list in accordance with final scores) There is currently ONE position open at Palmquist Elementary.

This is an 6 hour/day, 10 month position. This list will be used to fill any vacancies in the 2024-25 school year. Under the supervision of an assigned supervisor, perform a variety of library duties involved in the acquisition, circulation, maintenance, processing, inventory, and distribution of books and instructional materials to ensure availability, relevancy, and access at an assigned school site; assist students and teachers in the selection, location, and use of library materials and equipment; and promote literacy and the use of the library by students.

Requirements / QualificationsTraining and Experience Any combination of education, training, and experience equivalent to graduation from high school and one year of library or media center experience. Knowledge of Functions, operations, and maintenance of school libraries. Library practices, procedures, reference materials, resources, and terminology. Library cataloging, classification, and research systems and procedures. Filing, indexing, and inventory procedures. Applicable laws, codes, rules and regulations pertaining to libraries. Basic math. Interpersonal skills using tact, patience, and courtesy. Operation of a computer and assigned software. Oral and written communication skills. Modern office procedures, practices, and equipment.

Correct English usage, spelling, grammar, punctuation, and vocabulary. Ability to Establish a positive connection with students to make the library a safe and welcoming space. Perform a variety of library work. Monitor and maintain acceptable student behavior in the library. Inventory, order, catalog, and receive books, instructional materials, and equipment. Apply specific rules and procedures used in a library/media center setting. Organize materials according to general guidelines. Maintain records and prepare complex and accurate reports. Communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Understand and carry out oral and written instructions.

Operate a variety of office and library equipment including a computer and assigned software. Work independently with little direction. Establish and maintain cooperative and effective relationships with others. Communicate with diverse groups and individuals.
