Job NumberJ1025-0246Job TitleOrthopaedic TechnologistJob TypeCasualJob Location:AllistonJob CategoryHealthcare ProfessionalNumber Of Open Positions1DepartmentPerioperativeUnionNON-UNIONSalary$34.38 - $41.69/HourFte0.25Share Facebook X Email LinkedInPosition SummaryWorking under the direction of the attending physician, this role specializes in plaster and synthetic cast application, provides instruction to the patients on this form of treatment and provides care to clients with orthopaedic needs through the application, adjustment, and removal of a variety of casts, splints and traction fittings.ResponsibilitiesAssists with or removes dressings, sutures, staples.Applies, revises and removes casts for inpatients and outpatients.Fabricates, applies and removes splints, slabs, bandages and braces.Assesses levels of pain and/or swelling and instructs patients appropriately in methods of reducing these levels.Documents care provided according to hospital and the Canadian Society of Orthopaedic Technologists Standards.Sets up and checks traction equipment and bed frames.Document pertinent information and actions taken in the patient’s chart.Provide education to patients and family regarding wound care, cast care and skin care.Order, maintain and manage orthopaedic supplies.Collaborate with other health care professionals such as physicians, nurses and physiotherapists as required.Interact with other departments to obtain the resources needed to assist in patient care.Supports patient safety culture by ensuring work completed recognizes the safety of the patients.Works in a safe manner and promotes health and safety in the workplace.Adheres to departmental and legislated health and safety standards. Communicates issues and concerns to the Director.Attends and participates in staff meetings.Attends and completes hospital/team training.Assists in the orientation/preceptorship of new staff members and students.Performs other duties consistent with job classification, as required.Education/ExperienceSuccessful completion of a high school diploma or recognized equivalent.Graduate of a recognized Orthopaedic Technologist Program or a combination of equivalent work experience.Registered member of the Canadian Society of Orthopaedic Technologists preferred Minimum two years’ experience in hospital clinic preferred.BCLS certification an asset.Understanding of theory and application skin and skeletal traction.Understanding of the proper application of aseptic technique in dressing change, pin and suture removal, setting up of surgical fields.Knowledge of Meditech.Skills/AbilitiesDemonstrated patient/staff teaching skills.Ability to apply and remove all types of casts, splints and orthopaedic devices.Proven ability to read, write, and follow verbal and written English instructions.Able to meet the physical demands of the job.
