Our top three priorities are to provide access to bikes, ongoing opportunities to ride, and bicycling education.In the Fall of 2016, we opened the Pedal Station, a Community Bike Center and social enterprise that sells affordable bicycles to the greater Colorado Springs community while generating revenue to run our programs and help further our mission. We accept donations of bikes that will either be refurbished for resale, go into our programs, or be processed for parts or scraps.On Oct. 1, 2022, Kids on Bikes became the sole owner of Mountain Equipment Recyclers (MER) in order to further develop the retail strength of both entities and further develop diverse revenue to ensure Kids on Bikes’ ability to fulfill its mission. MER operates its retail business in collaboration with the Pedal Station at 2222 Bott Ave. Tuesday through Saturday from 11am-7pm.Position SummaryThe Pedal Station General Manager (GM) is a full-time salaried position at Kids on Bikes. The Pedal Station GM plays a crucial role in managing systems, people, and procedures and operations to grow revenue, operations, and the broader impact of our mission. This individual must be a self-generator and demonstrate the ability to successfully manage multiple tasks and responsibilities while communicating effectively and working on a team. The Pedal Station GM must lead with positive energy, enthusiasm, a collaborative spirit, and remain resourceful, solution-focused and ultimately strengthen every aspect of the Pedal Station.The Pedal Station General Manager reports directly to the Executive Director of Kids on Bikes. The Pedal Station GM will work closely with the Pedal Station staff, volunteers, as well as the GM and staff of Mountain Equipment Recyclers (MER) The Pedal Station GM supervises both full-time and part-time staff as well as numerous volunteers. The Pedal Station GM oversees day-to-day operations including retail sales & inventory, community classes/clinics, donations processing, and helps to develop strategic direction and goals for the broader Kids on Bikes mission.Key ResponsibilitiesRetail and Service OperationsCreate a top-notch welcoming, professional, and inclusive environment for anyone who walks in the doorAnswer questions about bike fit, functionality, mechanics and bike parts with a friendly and educational approachSustain and further develop workflow systems for both retail sales and bicycle repairManage bike donation and parts inventory, processing, and allocation for sales and repairMaintain accuracy and bookkeeping aspects of bikes and parts pricing and salesSupervise and manage all aspects of providing bicycle service, repair, and other services provided to the public with the highest level of professionalism and mechanical proficiencyManage the cash register and close out sales each day Workshop and Retail SpaceOversee staff and volunteer work hours and procedures for people to work on bikesManage appropriate tool inventory, cleaning products, safety equipment and other shop necessitiesEnsure a clean and safe environment for all staff, volunteers and customersOverall safety for the workplace: Ensure all appropriate safety equipment is readily available, process and procedure for general workplace safety training Bike Donations ProcessingManage the donation life cycle for all donations receivedEnsure each bike and other donated equipment is treated with the utmost care and responsibility in order to achieve mission-aligned goals and objectivesManage and ensure quick, efficient, and professional bike turnover processPartner with local youth serving agencies to get bikes donatedMange the metal and rubber scrap recycling Volunteer ManagementManage the recruitment and training of volunteers to help the Pedal Station as appropriateCoordinate volunteer mechanic nights with local cycling teams, clubs, and other community groupsEnsure the organization and maintenance of volunteer hours and relevant data Partnership & Relationship ManagementMaintain and further develop community partnerships as appropriate for various aspects of programming, operations and the sustainability of the Pedal StationMaintain and cultivate relationships with local bike shops, bike clubs, race teams, and other groups that partner in ways to ensure the Pedal Stations’ successManage and direct partnerships with vendors and other companies as appropriate for the retail and programmatic aspects of the Pedal Station Required Skills/ AbilitiesCommitment to the mission of Kids on Bikes3 or more years of leadership experience in retail, non-profit, or community bike settingsKnowledge of bicycle mechanics, parts and service processesStrong communication, organization, and people management skillsProficiency with POS systems, scheduling, and inventory tracking Education And ExperienceBachelor’s degree preferred but not required. Equivalent experience valued.Salary And BenefitsThis is a full-time, exempt, salary position located in Colorado Springs. Regular working hours are typically Tuesday – Saturday. Base salary starts at $60,000 annually depending on qualifications and experience. Health, Vision, and Dental benefits are available.
