Job DescriptionAs a Planning Support Officer, you’ll play a vital role behind the scenes, providing the administrative and technical support that keeps our statutory planning service on track. Your work will help ensure that every application, consultation and decision is managed efficiently, transparently and in line with regulations – directly contributing to the growth and character of our borough.Working StyleYou’ll be based in the Borough for 3 days a week, playing a key role in serving the local community. Whether you’re working on the frontline or behind the scenes, you’ll be part of a dedicated team making a real difference to residents’ lives.What You’ll Be DoingYou’ll provide essential administrative support across all areas of the planning process. From registering and validating planning applications to coordinating public consultations, your attention to detail and organisational skills will ensure everything runs smoothly.Your day might include issuing neighbour letters and site notices, uploading consultation responses, or preparing decision notices and planning advice letters. You’ll help keep planning records accurate and up to date, making sure all data is correctly entered, labelled and published in line with GDPR and local validation requirements.You’ll also support enforcement and tree work applications, assist with committee report packs and provide administrative help for planning appeals. As a key point of contact for residents and applicants, you’ll handle enquiries by phone and email, offering clear, friendly and accurate information.This is a fast-paced, high-volume environment where your efficiency, professionalism and teamwork will help keep the service operating to the highest standards.For further details, please review the Job Description and Person SpecificationWhat You’ll BringYou’ll be organised, motivated and confident managing a busy workload while maintaining exceptional accuracy. Experience in a customer-focused role is essential, along with strong communication skills and the ability to engage professionally with the public and colleagues.You’ll have experience working in a busy, customer focused environment, and have a good understanding of how a local planning authority works.
