This position performs various duties in law enforcement including patrolling, investigating crimes, investigating motor vehicle accidents and securing all real property within the Board of Regents authority, and assuring all laws of the Board of Regents, county, and state are carried out in an efficient and effective manner in many situations that are highly dangerous, stressful, and unpredictable requiring quick judgment.This position is designated as a Campus Security Authority (CSA) and holds the responsibility of serving as a mandatory reporter for all Clery Act crimes.ResponsibilitiesPatrols assigned districts to assure all laws are enforced by checking building and complex's for any criminal activity such as broken windows and unlocked doors; arrests any suspects found in the commission of crimes; fills out arrest reports and transports the suspect to the Detention Center.Answers any calls from the public, students, faculty, and staff requesting assistance in burglaries, domestic violence, or any situation needing the response from law enforcement authorities.Responds to motor vehicle accidents in designated areas or assists in other areas as needed; assist EMT's firefighters, and other emergency personnel; performs first aid/CPR when necessary; provides emotional support to victims at the scene; directs traffic as necessary to prevent further accidents. Helps motorists with mechanical problems or calling wreckers when necessary; gives directions to motorists; remove debris from the roadways; escort parades, and provides direction during sports events when necessary; directs traffic at special events.Maintains pedestrian and traffic safety by stopping unsafe motorists, impaired drivers and speeding vehicles; issued citations or arrest drivers and impound vehicles as needed; reports any malfunctioning signals or damaged and missing signs. Inspects all police vehicles used for road safety by checking tire pressure and depth, oil, fuel, and reporting any unusual occurrences to the maintenance personnel and the next shift.Secures crime scenes. Identifies witnesses or suspects. Insures evidence is not disturbed. Notifies shift sergeant of the situation. May be required to assist investigator upon his/her arrival.May perform duties in any other positions as necessary and provide testimony in court.Knowledge, Skills, & AbilitiesKnowledge of standard police practices and techniquesKnowledge of the university properties, population, and traffic control concernsAbility to analyze situations quickly and objectively and to determine the proper course of actionAbility to cope with situations firmly, courteously, and tactfully but with respect for the rights of othersAbility to react quickly and calmly under emergency conditionsAbility to obtain information through interview, interrogation, and observation; ability to understand and execute difficult oral and written instructionsAbility to express ideas clearly, orally and in writing, and to prepare comprehensive records and reportsAbility to develop skills in the use and care of firearms.
