Job Description

The Private Sector Organisation of Jamaica invites applications from suitably qualified persons to fill the following vacancy: POLICY AND RESEARCH ASSISTANTResponsibilities include: ·        Conduct in-depth research, analysis, and produce comprehensive reports to inform policy recommendations, services development, and programme implementation. ·        Develop and maintain databases, spreadsheets and other research tools for policy development and trends to facilitate evidence-based and data driven research. ·        Track and analyse the Parliament's legislative agenda, focusing on policies impacting the private sector and their implementation. ·        Monitor major political, environmental, social and economic developments to guide PSOJ's advocacy efforts and policy positions.

·        Write project proposals, grant applications and identify strategic partnerships for execution. ·        Execute initiatives emanating from assigned committees to meet outlined objectives. ·        Conduct regular risk assessments across the organization and relevant sectors to prioritize high-impact threats. ·        Provide timely briefs and recommendations to guide the PSOJ’s policy position and stakeholder engagement. ·        Recommend improvements to strengthen risk governance and alignment with industry best practices. Critically analyse data, identify patterns, and formulate solutions. •        Exceptional soft and technical skills:  Demonstrates organisational abilities to manage complex schedules, high-stakes tasks especially utilizing data analysis tools, specialized applications and software. •        Curiosity and passion for learning: Shows a genuine passion and interest in research and policy making, ensuring alignment with objectives. •        Maturity and loyalty:  Displays a deep understanding of the role’s importance and a steadfast commitment to the organisation’s mission and has the ability and willingness to work on own initiative and with minimal supervision. •        Ethics and integrity:

Holds the moral standards in the highest regard and remains honest and true to the organisation’s strategic direction. •        Adaptability: Adjusting to the changing research priorities and overcoming challenges is important in the research field. •        Attention to detail:  Ensures accuracy and validity in every aspect of work, recognising its impact on organisational success. •        Communication: Presents research findings both verbally and in writing in a confident and coherent manner. Qualifications and Competencies BSc in Social Policy and Development, Social Sciences or relevant field is preferred. At least two (2) years’ experience working in a research or policy analysis position.

Excellent analytical, research, technical writing and communications skills, including strong presentation skills. Project Management certification would be an asset. Ability to understand and apply project management principles.
