Job Description

Job DescriptionDTU Chemistry is seeking a talented researcher to develop advanced thermodynamic models for predicting phase equilibria and thermophysical properties of PFAS. This position offers an excellent opportunity for an early-career scientist to build a strong foundation and conduct cutting-edge research at the forefront of the field.PFAS are highly persistent environmental contaminants that pose serious ecological and health risks. Their low concentration and complex behavior make experimental analyses challenging. Developing reliable predictive models is essential to reduce the reliance on experiments and enhance the accuracy of property and phase equilibrium estimations. In this project, we aim to advance the COSMO-based thermodynamic models to accurately predict the phase equilibria and key physicochemical properties of PFAS, thereby supporting environmental risk assessments and optimization of removal technologies.Responsibilities And QualificationsThe postdoctoral researcher will work on the thermodynamic modeling of PFAS-containing mixtures, focusing on improving predictive models such as COSMO-RS for phase equilibria and relevant physicochemical properties. The ideal candidate should have:A strong background in thermodynamics and phase behavior of complex mixturesExcellent programming skills (e.g., Python, C++, Fortran, or similar)Experience with COSMO-based methods, including parameterization, model development, and computational algorithmsA solid understanding of theoretical chemistry and solvation models such as COSMOThe ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a multidisciplinary research environmentAs a formal qualification, you must hold a PhD degree (or equivalent). We offerDTU is a leading technical university globally recognized for the excellence of its research, education, innovation and scientific advice. We offer a rewarding and challenging job in an international environment. We strive for academic excellence in an environment characterized by collegial respect and academic freedom tempered by responsibility.Salary and terms of employmentThe appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed upon with the relevant union. The postdoc position is a full-time position for a period of 2.5 years, starting from January 1, 2026 (or according to mutual agreement). You can read more about career paths at DTU here .Further information Further information may be obtained from Professor Wei Yan at DTU Chemistry, tel.: +45 2245 0662, email: weya@kemi.dtu.dk , website: https://www.kemi.dtu.dk/english/research/physical-chemistry/wei-yan-group .You can read more about DTU Chemistry at www.kemi.dtu.dkIf you are applying from abroad, you may find useful information on working in Denmark and at DTU at DTU – Moving to Denmark .Application procedure Your complete online application must be submitted no later than 21 November 2025 (23:59 Danish time).Applications must be submitted as one PDF file containing all materials to be given consideration.
