Job OverviewUniversity Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust is delighted to offer a fantastic opportunity to work with us.Please see below for detailed job description of the role.Main duties of the jobAn exciting opportunity has arisen for a full time, band 6, Practice Educator to join our expanding Neonatal Education Team in Southampton. We are looking to appoint a highly knowledgeable, motivated and skilled neonatal Nurse to support the development of new and junior staff within the unit.You will hold the Neonatal Qualified in Speciality Qualification and have experience in caring for complex babies requiring ventilatory / respiratory support, including high frequency oscillation ventilation and nitric oxide. Previous experience of teaching students and staff in clinical practice would be an advantage.Working closely with the Lead Educator and the other practice educators within the unit, you will be primarily supporting the education of new and junior staff within the neonatal unit. We welcome applicants of all backgrounds, identities, and experiences to join us in building a healthcare community where everyone can belong, thrive, and contribute.Detailed Job Description And Main ResponsibilitiesWithin this role you will support and facilitate clinical learning within Neonatal services which will ultimately enhance the quality of care that the babies & their families receive.You will facilitate multi-disciplinary and inter-departmental learning and simulation activities, including classroom-based teaching.You will act as a resource and role model for staff on all aspects of clinical education.You Will Have The Following Qualifications / Experience Registered Nurse (Adult or Child) or Registered Midwife Qualification Specialist Neonatal Qualified in Speciality qualification First level degree preferable and / or relevant neonatal experience Evidence of mentor / practice assessor / coaching qualification and / or evidenceof supporting learners in clinical practice Evidence of ongoing professional development Neonatal Life Support qualification Experience as a band 5 Qualified in Speciality neonatal nurse Experience of undertaking clinical audit in practice would be an advantage Knowledge of NMC education standards Ability to be flexible to meet the needs of the teamPerson specificationQualifications, Knowledge And ExperienceEssential criteriaRegistered Nurse (Adult or Child) on Part 1 of the NMC Register or Registered MidwifeProfessional knowledge acquired through degree education or equivalent experienceMentoring / coaching / education qualification to postgraduate diploma level or equivalent evidence of supporting learners in practice.Evidence of ongoing professional developmentSignificant experience within relevant fieldNeonatal Qualified in Specialty QualificationNeonatal Life Support QualificationExperience of educating others in a formal or informal settingBroad awareness of Trust initiatives/pressuresExperience of undertaking clinical auditDesirable criteriaEducation at a master's degree levelFurther education at a master's degree level in relevant practice areaLeadership qualification or significant equivalent experiencePrevious Band 6 experienceFurther evidence of speciality competenceEvidence of nursing practice development and management of changeResearch awareness/experienceStress management or counselling courseKnowledge of undergraduate educationKnowledge of apprenticeship educationKnowledge of current healthcare support worker / nursing associate educationKnowledge of the wider healthcare agendaTrust ValuesEssential criteriaPatient FirstWorking TogetherAlways Improving
