Remote - US & CanadaWe’re looking for an experienced Data Scientist to help us develop scalable data-driven solutions that enhance player understanding, foster safe and secure online communities, and optimize the overall player experience. This role is critical for innovating and expanding upon our existing game analytics tooling, and will work with data professionals, application engineers, and stakeholders throughout the studio to create new functionality that serves the needs of gamers AND game developers everywhere.On any given day at thatgamecompany, you might:Comb through large sets of game telemetry data to uncover player relationships, feature usage trends, security threats, inefficiencies, and opportunities to improve the player or developer experience. Design and test innovative solutions to improve new player retention through data-driven insights and automationDevelop novel solutions to identify, surface, and mitigate non-human bot activityTranslate data-driven solutions into product features to automate and share our innovationsGive a presentation to help talk through some unintuitive discoveries from one of your data modelsWe expect you to:Have deep passion for video games; be a gamer and think on behalf of our playersBe curious, a problem solver and a self starter who is comfortable taking risks. Know how and when to apply your knowledge, and be willing to share with the rest of usBe comfortable with ambiguity and able to navigate it to iteratively refine the problem spaceSpearhead projects touching multiple workgroups, regularly liaising with and coordinating development effortsProactively drive product and feature innovation, leveraging your wisdom and expertise to identify and prioritize initiativesRequired Skills3+ Years of Experience applying Data Science methodologies to product developmentStrong understanding of machine learning and statistical methods, including classical ML, deep learning, NLP, and anomaly detection. Expertise in statistical concepts such as experimental design, hypothesis testing, regression, classification, and clusteringProficiency in writing clean, efficient code in Python, Java, or TypescriptExperience writing optimized SQL to build and analyze datasetsFamiliarity with modern Cloud Platforms (preferably GCP)Exposure to big data processing tools like BigQuery, Redshift, Snowflake, Spark, and BeamStrong communication skills, desire to understand the data you’re using, and the ability to explain what you built and why you built itWillingness to continuously learn, adapt, and step outside of your comfort zone. Preferred ExperienceAny of the following would be highly preferred, but most of all, we value team players who are eager to learn and contribute:Kubernetes and Open Source toolingGraph Databases or MatchmakingAnalysis of 3D event dataExperience developing Data-Driven SaaS ProductsExperience in the video gaming industryExperience in a small company with a startup feelInterest in technical writing and sharing your workAt thatgamecompany, we believe in fostering creativity, collaboration, and innovation. This salary range is an estimate, and the actual salary may vary based on the Company’s compensation practices.Employees in this position are eligible to participate in the Company’s standard employee benefit programs, which currently include the following: medical, dental, vision, 401k, and paid time off.
