Do you have a sharp eye for detail, strong technical design skills, and experience working within a CMS? The Art Canada Institute (ACI) is seeking a freelance Production Designer to support the design and production of our bilingual art books and educational materials.As a member of ACI’s publishing and education teams, you’ll help bring to life a range of projects—from online art books to classroom-ready resources used by educators across the country. Working closely with our editorial, education, and communications teams, you’ll ensure that every design meets ACI’s high standards for clarity, accessibility, and visual storytelling.About the Art Canada InstituteThe Art Canada Institute (ACI) is a dynamic, educational arts organization, dedicated to making Canadian art and its history a contemporary, multi-vocal conversation. We especially welcome applications from Indigenous people, racialized people, people with disabilities, people from gender and sexually diverse communities, and people with intersectional identities.ResponsibilitiesThe Production Designer will support ACI’s editorial, education, and communications teams with a range of tasks, including:Formatting and preparing design files for digital and print publication.Managing updates and revisions within ACI’s content management system (CMS).Reviewing proofs, implementing edits, and ensuring consistency across all ACI content.Coordinating with printers to ensure on-schedule delivery of print materials, including proofs.Support with image prep, photo editing, and template creation. Qualifications3 years of professional design experience, ideally in cultural, publishing, or educational contexts.Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator).Hands-on experience with a CMS is essential.Exceptional attention to detail, organization, and typographic sensitivity.Strong communication and editorial skills.Ability to work independently, meet deadlines, and adapt to evolving project needs.A publication design certificate or equivalent training is an asset.Interest in and knowledge of art, culture, and Canadian art history is an asset.Familiarity with designing bilingual (English/French) materials is an asset. Application SubmissionsPlease submit your CV and a cover letter to jobs@aci-iac.ca to the attention of Victoria Nolte, Acting Director of Programming.
