The Production Supervisor is a key role supervising the overall day to day operations to ensure the performance, coordination, and management of various resources to achieve safety, productivity, efficiency, quality, service, and profitability for their team and the organization.Key ResponsibilitiesEnsure employee Health and Safety through compliance with all safety and mine regulations, company policies and regulationsResponsible for ensuring proper use and maintenance of personal protective equipmentCoordinates open pit activities; loading, hauling, dumping and miscellaneous activitiesControl pit operations to detect violation of safety regulations and compile safety and production recordsAssist in work scheduling and planning, ensuring alignment to weekly plan deliverablesPrepare reports on accident/incident that happen during the shiftConduct daily pre-shift meetings to ensure employees are informed of safety and production issuesOrganize training for equipment operators to improve their competencies Understand, promote, and operate by overall company vision, values, goals, objectives and strategiesProvide job specific instructions daily basis and monitor progressEnsure that all employees are properly trained on the use of appropriate equipmentCommunicate routinely and effectively with the Project Manager and other supervisors as requiredBuild and maintain relationships with all stakeholders not limited to but including Technical Services and Maintenance TeamsWork collaboratively with the Union and manage in a manner that is supportive and compliant with collective agreement obligationsParticipate in the weekly planning process by providing inputs and highlighting any shortfalls within the plan that have the potential to disrupt operationsWork in compliance at all times with the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA), including participation in risk assessments, adherence to safe work practices and reporting hazards as per the Internal Responsibility System. Contribute positively to a respectful work environment in compliance with the Code of Conduct and the Healthy, Safe and Respectful Workplace policyWork in compliance with all policies and procedures and the Employee HandbookPerforms other related duties as assignedRequired SkillsDemonstrated ability to achieve results within a team environment with minimal supervision at timesGood oral and written communication skills High level of attention to detail and excellent follow-up skills The ability to work in a team environmentMining or heavy industrial construction experience considered an asset Ability and willingness to work different schedules on site based on project needs Post-high school training in a related areaJob RequirementsSurface Common Core and Completion of Generic First Line Supervisor Common CoreMinimum of 3-5 years' experience as a shift Supervisor, in an open pit, with demonstrated leadership competenciesManaging in a unionized workplace preferredStrong working knowledge of OHSATechnical expertise: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OutlookSpeaks clearly and persuasively in positive or challenging situationsSuccessfully facilitate difficult conversationsListens and seeks confirmation of understandingAbility to relay concepts and train others for competenceEffectively respond well to questions in a timely mannerAbility to maintain documentation thoroughly and responsiblyMust be fluent in the English languageAuthorization to work lawfully in Canada without sponsorship from Thiess is required (Applicants who qualify as an Intra-Company Transfer under the International Mobility Program may receive assistance from Thiess)EDUCATIONHigh School Diploma or EquivalentAdditional InformationCurrently based out of the Stobie Open Pit Mine in Sudbury, Ontario, CanadaWork schedule to be confirmed: possibility of 7 days on / 7 days off rotating 12-hour shifts (days and nights), or Monday to Thursday, 10-hour day shifts Occasional local travel as neededValid driver’s license and access to a personal vehicleThiess is committed to fostering a diverse, equitable, inclusive and anti-racist workplace culture where all employees are valued, respected, and empowered to contribute their unique perspectives and talents.
