Scope of PositionThe PMO Manager is the gatekeeper of project governance and delivery standards, ensuring rigour, compliance, and quality assurance across the entire project portfolio. Acting as the custodian of project management processes and the project delivery lifecycle, this role enforces consistency, transparency, and accountability in all project activities. While the PMO Manager does not own customer-facing projects, they will take responsibility for internal project delivery as required, ensuring alignment with strategic objectives. The role demands strong experience in both development and infrastructure projects to support diverse delivery environments.Minimum 10 years in project/programme management, with at least 5 years in PMO leadership.PMO Mandate:Serve as the authority on project management best practices, setting and maintaining standards, methodologies, and tools.Act as the gatekeeper for governance, ensuring projects meet defined entry and exit criteria at each stage of the lifecycle.Provide independent assurance on project health, compliance, and performance.Drive rigour in planning, execution, and reporting, ensuring decisions are based on accurate, timely data.Champion continuous improvement and act as the organisational advocate for project management excellence.Core ResponsibilitiesStandardisation: Define, maintain, and implement project management standards, processes, and tools to ensure consistency and efficiency.Governance & Compliance: Establish and enforce governance structures, ensuring adherence to corporate and PM frameworks.Monitoring & Reporting: Oversee and report on project and programme performance, monitoring progress against business cases and ensuring accuracy in reporting.Risk Management: Lead risk assessment and mitigation efforts at project and portfolio level.Resource Allocation: Efficiently allocate resources (people, budget, tools) across projects, balancing competing demands.People Management:Direct line management responsibility for Project Managers and a small team of administrators and schedulers.PM professionals are allocated to individual business towers; Business Tower Owners remain responsible for utilisation and work assignment.Collaborate with Business Tower Leads on hiring new PMs and workforce planning.Work closely with colleagues in Finance and People & Culture to ensure alignment on resourcing and compliance.Leadership & Support: Provide expert guidance to project managers, lead the PMO team, and act as a trusted advisor to senior leadership.Strategic Alignment: Ensure projects align with organisational objectives by setting KPIs and tracking progress.Continuous Improvement: Champion best practices and drive continuous improvement in project delivery.Governance Forums: Run regular project governance forums to ensure transparency and accountability.Weekly Reporting: Ensure timely and accurate weekly reporting across all projects.Project Assurance Reviews: Conduct assurance reviews to validate compliance and performance.Escalation: Escalate issues to Business Owners and/or Leadership Team as appropriate.Required CompetenciesExpertise in governance, quality assurance, and financial oversight.Strong knowledge of project management methodologies and frameworks, including PMI, PRINCE2, SAFe Agile, and P3O.Proven leadership and stakeholder engagement skills.Advanced analytical and reporting capability.Ability to balance strategic oversight with operational delivery.Essential Skills & ExperienceSignificant experience managing large, complex projects or portfolios.Minimum 10 years in project/programme management, with at least 5 years in PMO leadership.Relevant certifications (PMP, PRINCE2, MSP, SAFe Agile).Ability to analyse data, provide evidence-based insights, and challenge information received from projects.Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.Problem-solving ability and experience in fast-changing business environments.Significant experience in both development and infrastructure projects.Our Company, Auxilion – About UsWork matters.
