For more information on diversity and inclusion, please visit: https://www.alberta.ca/diversity-inclusion-policy.aspx .The Fleet Safety Office (FSO) oversees and monitors compliance, regulatory and training for drivers within the general vehicle fleet in the Government of Alberta (GoA). The FSO enables Fleet Management Services (FMS) to assist ministries utilizing GoA fleet vehicles in the management of drivers and safety. The Driver Management Information System (DMIS), vendor-based telematics system (Electronic Logging Device (ELD) and Global Positioning System (GPS)) and vendor-based Fleet Management Information System (FMIS) are used to assist the FSO in monitoring compliance. The office is tasked with the management of the carrier profile and ensuring regulatory compliance with the National Safety Code (NSC) is maintained. Working with various ministries and departments, the FSO is responsible for ensuring that the GoA vehicle fleet and drivers meet requirements, and manage the GoA’s “on road” risk for operators of GoA owned and leased vehicles.Role ResponsibilitiesReporting to the Fleet Safety Officer, the Program Coordinator provides comprehensive services essential to the effective and efficient administration and delivery of the vehicle safety management program. The Program Coordinator has responsibility in providing leadership, subject matter expertise, knowledge and information support to internal and external partners and stakeholders on fleet safety policies, procedures and administration applications.This position has responsibility for developing partnerships with stakeholders to identify and prioritize issues, opportunities and strategies that support the vision of the department by delivering standardized shared services to partner ministries, boards, agencies and commissions. This position also collaborates with other ministry services representatives and private sector suppliers to resolve concerns and disputes relating to the fleet safety program delivery. While ensuring the provision of high quality and responsive services, this position works within the framework of applicable legislation, regulations and policies and procedures.Key ResponsibilitiesPromote and maintain high standards of vehicle, driver and road safety.Facilitate compliance with the Alberta Traffic Safety Act and Regulations, National Safety Code (NSC) Standards and other legislated requirements.Maintain and oversee vehicle and driver records in compliance with applicable legislation and GoA record-keeping standards.Interpret transportation safety legislation and best practices and provide subject matter expertise on driver and vehicle safety matters.Research, consolidate and document industry safety standards, to provide input to the development of fleet and vehicle safety policies and procedures within the GoA operating environment.Manage the acquisition of permits and any applicable exemptions for specialized vehicles.Design and deliver training content tailored to fleet systems and driver safety applications.Develop and deliver timely reporting to clients and stakeholders on a regular basis.Develop and deliver briefing materials to management when required.Provide consultation, guidance, and advice to internal and external stakeholders on policies and procedures relating to vehicle and driver safety.To be successful in this role, you need to have:Creative problem solving, customer services, and relationship building skills.Effective time management, multitasking, and exceptional organizational skills.Consultation and interpersonal skills, including ability to develop acceptable solutions to issues are required.Team player, and ability to work independently with minimal supervision.Ability to demonstrate initiative, professional judgement, and creativity.Strong communication skills to enable the development and positive maintenance of collaborative working relationships with clients, vendors, and stakeholders.Please click on this link to view the job description for this position.APS CompetenciesCompetencies are behaviors that are essential to reach our goals in serving Albertans. Ideally with Government experience, multi-site operation or organization of significant size, complexity and diversity.The Following Are Requirements For This RoleWorking Knowledge of NSC, Motor Vehicle Transport Act, Transportation of Dangerous Goods Act and Regulations, Alberta Traffic Safety Act and its Regulations.Ability to demonstrate a solid understanding of contracts and vendor relationship management including familiarity with procurement policies and procedures.Ability to push, pull and lift heavy items and objects up to 50 pounds.Able to work in a warehouse environment and outside in variable weather conditions.Demonstrate good mobility and dexterity as position may require walking and standing for significant periods of time.Class 5 (non-probationary) or higher driver’s license with a driver’s abstract not older than 30 days.
