Brightsmith is supporting a privately owned renewable energy company to hire a Project Development Engineer in Italy. This role is not within Brightsmith. We are representing a client that has established itself as a trusted partner to institutional investors since its founding in 2019, developing utility scale solar, wind, energy storage and emerging green hydrogen projects.The company is headquartered in Bologna and led by partners with more than 15 years of experience in land based solar and wind development in the Italian market. This is an opportunity to join a growing organisation at the forefront of Italy’s energy transition.What Makes This Role Stand Out• Opportunity to contribute to the development of large scale renewable energy and energy storage projects • Work alongside highly experienced industry professionals with strong Italian market expertise • Exposure to multiple clean energy technologies and future facing energy solutions • Hands on involvement across the full development cycle from early site screening to permitting • A collaborative company culture focused on technical excellence, learning and long term value creationKey Responsibilities• Identify and assess project sites using environmental, technical and regulatory criteria • Prepare project layouts and technical drawings using CAD software • Conduct energy yield simulations to inform feasibility and design decisions • Perform site constraint analysis using GIS tools, geoportals, cadastral data and public information sources • Support the preparation and review of planning and permitting documentation, including Autorizzazione Unica, PAS and Environmental Impact Assessments • Coordinate external consultants, engineers, environmental specialists and permitting advisors • Engage with landowners, municipalities, regional authorities, grid operators and other stakeholders • Review technical, planning and environmental documentation to support internal decisions • Assist with due diligence activities for projects in development or acquisition • Prepare internal reports, presentations and supporting documents for project progressionWho We Are Looking For• Degree in engineering or a related technical discipline • One to three years experience in renewable energy development or a similar technical environment • Understanding of Italy’s permitting and regulatory framework • Experience using CAD and GIS tools and familiarity with energy yield modelling • Strong communication and relationship building skills • Ability to manage multiple activities and prioritise effectively • Detail oriented with strong analytical and organisational skills • Motivated by the clean energy transition and willing to learn and grow • Fluent in Italian and English • Willingness to travel within Italy as neededWe value diverse perspectives and backgrounds.
