Job Description: Project Manager – Construction & Maintenance (Africa)Position Title: Project ManagerLocation: Africa (project-based, with travel to remote/bush locations) Reports To: Operations Director / Group Construction Lead Contract Type: Fixed-term or renewable project contractPosition OverviewWe are seeking an experienced Project Manager to oversee diverse construction, survey, maintenance, and refurbishment projects across various African regions. The ideal candidate will combine strong technical and operational acumen with the cultural sensitivity and adaptability required to work within multi-ethnic environments and remote bush settings.This role requires a proactive leader capable of managing all phases of project delivery — from planning and budgeting to execution and completion — while maintaining a strong commitment to safety, quality, and environmental standards.Key ResponsibilitiesProject Planning & CoordinationDevelop, implement, and monitor project plans, timelines, and resource allocations.Coordinate with survey teams, engineers, and contractors to ensure project accuracy and alignment with specifications.Oversee refurbishment and maintenance works, ensuring quality and safety compliance.Budget & Cost ControlPrepare and manage project budgets, forecasts, and expenditure reports.Ensure cost efficiency through proactive procurement, logistics, and resource optimization.Maintain strict financial accountability and reporting transparency.Site & Operational ManagementOversee on-site construction activities, ensuring compliance with HSE and QA/QC standards.Manage logistics, camp operations, and infrastructure in remote or semi-bush environments.Conduct regular inspections, progress meetings, and performance reviews.Stakeholder & Team RelationsLiaise with clients, consultants, and local authorities to ensure project objectives are achieved.Lead and mentor a diverse workforce, fostering respect, collaboration, and cultural understanding.Engage effectively with local communities and contractors, ensuring alignment with local regulations and traditions.Technical & Administrative OversightEnsure accurate reporting, documentation, and record-keeping across all project phases.Prepare project reports, handover documentation, and completion certificates.Contribute to project reviews, audits, and lessons-learned sessions.Qualifications & ExperienceMinimum of 8–10 years’ experience in construction, infrastructure, or maintenance project management, preferably within Africa.Relevant degree or diploma in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or Project Management.Proven experience in survey, maintenance, and refurbishment projects.Prior exposure to remote site operations or bush camp environments is highly advantageous.Sound knowledge of HSE standards, project budgeting, and contractor management.Proficiency in Microsoft Project, Excel, and construction management software.Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel extensively within Africa.Key CompetenciesStrong leadership and problem-solving skills under challenging field conditions.Exceptional communication and cross-cultural collaboration abilities.Financial and contractual discipline, with excellent organizational skills.Practical, adaptable, and able to manage multiple projects simultaneously.Knowledge of an African language (Swahili, Afrikaans, Zulu, or French) is a distinct advantage.Awareness of environmental and wildlife conservation practices is desirable.Personal AttributesResilient and resourceful under remote site conditions.Results-driven with a commitment to safety and ethical conduct.Respectful and culturally attuned to diverse African workforces and communities.Self-motivated with a balanced leadership approach — firm yet fair.To Apply, kindly send your CV to Francois.LeRiche@reed.com
